Apologists for Islam often point to Turkey as a shining example of a secular nation within the Islamic world. However, like much that which exudes from the mouths of those who want to turn people’s eyes away from the problems of Islam, such examples of moderation normally turn out to be anything but what we in the free world would refer to as religious moderation.
Such is the case with Turkey, where your taxes are being funnelled by the EU into facilitating that country’s eventual entry into the EU. Sadly, the situation in Turkey is not as it seems and it has not changed in the positive way that many politicians believe. Despite being flagged up as moderate by Islamic apologists and being a member of NATO, Turkey appears to be turning more and more ‘Islamic’ in its culture and governmental character.
The Italian news agency ANSAmed reported that the Turkish government under Prime Minister Erdogan has built Islamic indoctrination centres (mosques) at a higher rate than the government is building schools.
ANSAmed said:
“Some 17,000 new mosques have been built during Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s 10 years of leadership, Milliyet reports.
In the same period the amount of public schools has remained at 32,000 while the number of mosques has jumped from 76,000 to 93,000. Turkey’s secular opposition has accused Erdogan of having a ”secret plan” to re-Islamisize the nation.
Erdogan recently announced the construction of a new mega-mosque in Istanbul which will ”be seen from every corner of the Bosphorus” and will have the tallest minarets in the world.”
That is a very worrying statistic, and infers that there is an intention to re-establish Islam as an important and influential part of the Turkish state. It goes completely against what was achieved by the Turkish revolutionary government under Mustafa Kemal later known as Ataturk or father of the Turks, from the early 1920’s onwards. Ataturk embarked on a campaign of secularisation for Turkey because he and his compatriots could see that the Ottoman Empire, part of which is now Turkey, was suffering from the entropy that comes with having government with an Islamic religious character. We see that same entropy and lack of development and achievement today in governments or areas controlled by Islam. There is a reason why there are so few Islamic Nobel Prize winners and that reason is Islam.
Prime Minister Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party government has a much more ‘Islamic’ character than previous civilian and military governments in Turkey. The fact that Erdogan’s government places so much store on the building of Islamic indoctrination centres (mosques) should be remembered well by those who are concerned about the spread of these Islamic indoctrination centres here in the UK. After all it was Erdogan himself who said quoted a Turkish nationalist poem which said: “”The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets and the faithful our soldiers….” That doesn’t sound to me or probably to many others the statement of a secularist leader.
Erdogan’s Turkey, is yet another fake ‘moderate’ Islamic nation or culture, whose apparent moderation disappears like a puff of smoke when the truth behind the propaganda is examined.
