I watched this one for the first time in years recently and I must say it has still held up. It is probably the comic actor Will Hay’s most well known film.
The plot revolves around Will Hay as the inept scion of a railway management family, so inept in fact that the only job that can be found for him is as a wheeltapper. He is sent by his exasperated and shamed family to work in a remote Northern Irish railway station. The film concerns Hay’s considerable comic adventures there, his bumbling attempts to do his job. The ‘pocket watch’ scene in the film is one that many people will recall if they have seen this film before. Add into the mix some shady but comical Irish republican gun runners and you have a recipie for a film full of pratfalls, mistakes, laughs and a big finish.
So for this weeks Friday night movie after last weeks more thoughtful and heavy offering I thought a bit of comedy was very much in order.
Here it is, Will Hay in Oh Mr Porter, hope you enjoy.
Cheers Matey,
