This is a classic British film of the film noir genre. The plot revolves around Miles Ravenscroft a playboy who disgraced himself as a soldier in World War II and has succumbed to the gambling habit and has been bailed out by family, friends and lovers.

The playboy finds out that a post office van will pick up £100,000 in used banknotes from a postal depot and he wants to steal the money to end his current fiscal predicament.

To help him in this task he meets and then corrupts other men, an American airman with a mother dominated wife, a broken down boxer and an Airforce officer married to a cheating wife, who started out good but end up being twisted by the force of Ravenscroft’s personality.

A film that is well worth spending an hour and forty minutes on.
