‘Affleck of Arabia’ shown up as an ignoramus about Islam.

I’ve recently got a chance to view the footage from the talk show when actor and dyed in the wool lefty Democratic supporter Ben Affleck got his bottom soundly spanked by fellow guests on the subject of Islam. Mr Affleck looked mightily cheesed off to find that not everyone on the show agreed with his knee-jerk Leftist influenced view of Islam.

In it, Mr Affleck tried many of the usual Lefty tricks to whitewash Islam or to equate being sceptical about the ideology of Islam with anti-Semitism. Mr Affleck did not seem to understand how much influence radical and oppressive Islamic ideas, such as death to those who leave Islam, have on the ordinary Muslim who may only be nominal Muslims. While the other guests including Bill Maher and Sam Harris built their argument on a bedrock of facts about Islam and Jihadism, Mr Affleck appeared to flounder, sulk and rely on the usual Leftist tactics, such as equating racism against those of a different skin colour, to scepticism about Islam.

The other guests made valuable points about the situation for genuine moderates within the Islamic world and outlined some of the facts about the dangers they face. Not so Mr Affleck. His performance on this video was embarrassing to watch as he was overwhelmed by hard data about the problems with Islamism and shown to be yet another Hollywood Leftist who has little idea about the real world. I actually felt a little sorry for Mr Affleck because it was plain to see that he had gone into this debate with very little knowledge of the subject that he was supposed to be debating about. Mr Affleck looked completely out of his depth and resorted to the standard Leftist trick of trying to shout over their political opponent.

This video is a valuable lesson for all about the divide that exists between those like Mr Affleck who think they know all about Islam, and those like Bill Maher, Sam Harris and the others who really do know what they are talking about.

According to the Wiki bio of Ben Affleck, it appears he grew up in a very Leftist household in Massachusetts and was probably surrounded by the sort of empty sloganeering that the Left is so very good at. On the Bill Maher show, Mr Affleck may well have realised that slogans and intellectually empty Leftist chants are no substitute for real, hard knowledge, especially when it comes to a global threat to freedom such as Islam.

In my opinion this programme was an object lesson on how to do a TV debate, which is to come armed with facts to back up your opinion, and the intention to use these facts to persuade your debating opponent, in this case Ben Affleck, that ideas that are opposite to his have validity.

Personally I’d like to see a British version of debates like this with British media Lefties being asked to justify their points of view. However, I wouldn’t expect to see it on the Left-dominated BBC channels.
