A right little comedy gem, or at least that’s my opinion, is this week’s offering entitled ‘And The Same To You’.
This movie stars former Dr Who lead William Hartnell as a seedy and shifty boxing promoter who sublets a church hall for use as a gym and also as a venue for boxing matches. His money making enterprise is threatened when a new Vicar is appointed to oversee the parish and also examine the goings on in the church hall.
The new vicar, played by Leo Franklin, accompanied by his unworldly seeming nephew, Dickie Dreadnought, played by Brian (now Lord) Rix. Dickie and the Reverend Mullett observe that the church hall needs a lot of work on the roof and cook up, along with the boxing promoter, a scheme to box for the money for the new roof.
There then follows some scenes that are classic British farce with misunderstandings, slapstick, and people who are not all that they seem.
I won’t give too much away in this description but let us say that the pratt-falls and escapades of the lead characters go together to make a very entertaining film. If you a fan of British comedy then watch out for Tommy Cooper playing the role of a punch-drunk boxer very comically indeed.
I hope that you enjoy this film as I enjoyed it very much indeed.
