It’s back to the 1940’s for tonight’s offering which is a World War II crime thriller called ‘The Dawn Express’. The film was made in 1942 and the plot revolves around a Nazi spy ring operating in the United States.

This ring of spies is trying to get samples of a chemical additive that increases the octane value of petrol. In the film this chemical is being developed for the US military for use in the war against the Nazis. The chemical is so strategically sensitive that it is being developed at two separate chemical facilities.

Unfortunately the Nazis manage to get hold of half of the formula and then turn their attention on the scientists who are working on the other half of the formula, with dramatic results.

I’ll not give too much of the plot away but there are kidnappings and strong arm tactics from the Nazis and a highly dramatic and indeed heroic ending.
