Sometimes there are news items that not only make me want to weep but also make me realise just how bad the security situation in European nations has become. Since these nations took leave of their senses and decided foolishly to treat the ideology of Islam just like other more peaceful faiths, cities that were once safe are safe no longer. Amsterdam is one of those places that were once seen especially by Jews as a haven of relative tolerance at times when elsewhere in Europe murderous pogroms were taking place. The Dutch culture of trade and the worldwide contacts that such trade brought created a relatively tolerant ‘live and let live’ culture in places like Amsterdam. The city was even once known and described in Yiddish as ‘Mokum’ which roughly translates as ‘safe place’.
However, Amsterdam is for Jews no longer the ‘Mokum’ of ancient history and, as has occurred in places like East London, an influx of Muslims and a growing Islamic culture has made the city more and more unsafe for Jews. It may not yet be time to flee the city for safer places such as the USA or Israel, but it can’t be denied that Jews are in much more danger since the introduction of large dollops of Islam than before.
To give you an idea of just how much danger Jew in Amsterdam seem to be in and to illustrate the violent mentality of a significant minority of the city’s Muslims we need only to look at this piece from the Israeli news outlet Arutz Sheva by Gary Willig. De Telegraaf (a Dutch newspaper) obtained a dossier from the Dutch Criminal Intelligence Agency (TFI), which described a “James Bond-like plan” to attack a synagogue and a bank.
An individual of Moroccan descent was identified as a member of the cell planning to carry out the terrorist attacks. He and other individuals associated with the Arrayan Mosque in northern Amsterdam are suspected by the TFI of involvement in Islamist radicalization and jihad-related activities.
If people wonder why people cheered when Geert Wilders stated that there should be ‘less Moroccans’ then this piece goes some way to explain why. Moroccans are linked to crime and terrorism and no amount of politically correct bullying or cover-ups can obscure that any more. Personally I believe that if there are terrorists associated with certain mosques then it is prudent to close these mosques down, although I doubt that this will happen.
Awi Cohen, a board member of Likud Netherlands, told the Algemeiner that the plot is the latest evidence of the “very unsafe environment for Jews” in the Netherlands.
Its difficult to disagree there. When I last visited the Netherlands about 8 years ago I felt safe walking round the district near the Great Synagogue but by all accounts I would not feel as safe today.
“Because of the large influence of the Left and extreme Left in the Netherlands, the problem [of Islamist terror] is not taken seriously enough,” Cohen said. “They don’t want to acknowledge the problems that come from immigration and ‘multiculturalism,’ and call issues raised about safety ‘Islamophobia.'” Cohen told the Algemeiner.
Mr Cohen is correct in his reading of the situation. In the Netherlands as elsewhere on the continent for Europe the Left are to blame for a significant proportions of the problems associated with Islamic terrorism and extremism. Leftist multicultural policies are not in my view culturally muscular enough to deal with ‘bully ideologies’ such as Islam. Leftists prefer to believe in the fantasy of all cultures being of equal worth, value and compatibility rather than acknowledge the reality that some ideologies, namely Islam, are more murderous than others. To put this right the people of Europe need to both abandon the Left and the Left itself needs to put its hands up and admit multiculturalism has failed dismally.
The Chief Rabbi of the Netherlands Rabbi Binyamin Jacobs told Arutz Sheva several years ago that Jews should simply leave the country as they have no future there..
This is a shocking and depressing statement for a Chief Rabbi of a nation that was once a haven for the oppressed and a place where Jews, religious dissidents and free thinkers from across Europe could find sanctuary. The lesson that Amsterdam should give us is that the more Islam a nation has within its borders the less freedoms, both religious and cultural, exist for the population. Across Europe we are seeing situations where women are less free, speech is less free, culture is less free, religious minorities are less free and that is mostly because Islam has been given a place at the communal table. To my mind tolerance of a degree of difference is a good thing but multiculturalism has become the opposite of tolerance as unlike tolerance there is no ‘two way street’. Multiculturalism and especially state enforced multiculturalism, fails because it orders those ruled by it to tolerate stuff that civilised people of all peaceful faiths and cultures would regard as abhorrent. Amsterdam has gone from haven to hell-hole because of a combination of Islam and the Left and that should not only depress us but make us damned angry and demand that this situation is changed.
