A little snippet of interesting information has been passed to this blog by one of its stringers in the Herefordshire area. It concerns the forthcoming General Election and the candidate choice of one of the three main political parties namely the Liberal Democrats.
It appears according to my source that the Liberal Democrats (whose behaviour is often neither liberal or respecting of the concept of democracy) has again chosen Lucy Hurds to be their candidate for the seat of Herefordshire South. The constituency is currently held by Mr Jesse Norman for the Conservatives with a majority of 16,890. The seat is also one which contains a considerable number of serving and former serving members of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces, more than few people who dislike the ideology of Islam and is one where 59% of the voters chose to vote to leave the European Union.
Despite this constituency profile, the Liberal Democrats have, inexplicably in both the views of my source and myself, chosen a candidate who campaigned heavily for Britain to remain shackled to the EU. Not only that but Lucy Hurds was caught out by a number of people (including this blog) pandering to Islam by welcoming proposals to build a Halal slaughterhouse in the village of Weobley. She gushed about the jobs that this enterprise would bring, but backtracked quickly when she got an avalanche of criticism from those opposed to Halal slaughter and from others disgusted at her apparent pandering to Islam. This backing of the Pak Mecca meat company was in spite of the firm itself being quite open in its publicity about its practises as a ‘non stun’ slaughter company. At the time this blog pointed out that it’s not a good idea to have as an MP a person who not only seems incapable of reading the small print, but is also apparently incapable of reading the big print either.
As regards the European Union issue, she has moderated or rather hidden her rabid Euro-enthusiasm somewhat in her current election publicity. However, it’s very noticeable, especially when you look back at her previous publicity during the EU Referendum, that she is a dyed in the wool ‘Remainiac’. If you want to see an example of her EU Referendum publicity then this is pasted in an Appendix at the bottom of this article.
I can hardly believe that with this attitude and coupled with the perception that she is an ‘Islamopanderer’, she will go down that well with that many voters. In fact, at the last General Election in 2015 Lucy Hurds managed to get a mere 5,002 votes as opposed to Jesse Norman’s 24,844, which was a notably piss poor performance for a candidate in a seat that prior to boundary changes was held by the Lib Dems. Her performance at the 2015 is even more remarkably bad when compared to the 2010 election when the previous Lib Dem candidate Sarah Carr, managed a respectable vote of 19,885 and came second. In the 2015 General Election Lucy Hurds was pushed into fourth place behind the Conservatives, UKIP and Labour and managed to achieve a negative swing of -30%.
If you wanted any evidence at all of what the Lib Dems think of the average voter then you do not need to look that much further than their choice of candidate for the June 8th General Election. In their arrogance, the Lib Dems have chosen someone whose views on the EU are the complete opposite of those held by 59% of the constituencies voters and because of that they deserve to get an electoral spanking. Yet again the Liberal Democrats have chosen to behave in a manner that is neither classicly ‘liberal’ or meaningfully ‘democratic’. Lucy Hurds is the ‘Brussels Candidate’ and voters should remember that when they go to the polling station.

As an Appendix I thought readers may like to see an example of the publicity that Lucy Hurds put out during the EU Referendum. I have reproduced the whole text from the Lib Dem website just in case the party decides to ‘bury the bad news’ and scrubs Ms Hurds’ ‘remainiac’ statements.
Like many of your readers I am proud to be Herefordian, British and European. Currently the UK has the best of both worlds with trade deals free of tariffs, duties and quotas with the largest market, whilst also being able to sign any new agreements with any other country, as we have with China. We have our own sovereignty or we could not be having this referendum and we work in peace with nations across the world
Immigration is a major concern to many people but our problem is more integration rather than immigration. We have a history of welcoming workers from across the world, with a large influx in a short time this has made getting to know our neighbours and helping them to become part of our communities harder.
EU workers contribute 34% more in taxes than they receive in benefits, this money helps pay for our NHS and Pensions which cannot continue without people paying in to support them, with an aging population more of that has to come from encouraging workers from abroad.
Measures are already in place to stop EU migrants claiming benefits for at least 3 months and even then they have to prove they are in work or genuinely looking before claiming anything. DWP show that only 0.5% of benefit claimants come from Central and Eastern Europe.
Some ways we have benefitted from the EU over the last five years within the West Midlands are;
● 250,000 jobs linked to trade with the EU
● 228 investment projects creating or protecting over 16000 jobs.
● £305 million providing training and apprenticeships
● £341.3 million creating 13381 jobs and supporting 1896 business start-ups.
For these and many more reasons I think we are in a stronger position using our influence to improve the EU rather than removing ourselves. I am campaigning for us to REMAIN and strengthen our Country’s future.
