I’ve met quite a few Texans in my lifetime and got on well with most of them. They are a hard working, freedom loving people in my experience who have given much to both the United States and to the world. There were for example 750,000 Texans who donned the uniform of the US Military and fought bravely against those who would destroy and subjugate my own country Britain and for that we must be forever grateful. Texans have in the past rolled up their sleeves and helped others wherever they could.
However, now it is time for the rest of the world to rally round and help the Texans deal with the effects of the flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey which has devastated the State and has taken many lives. As the blogger Ambush Predator excellently put it: ‘Water is the worst disaster’.. Ambush Predator said that the damage caused by earthquakes or fires or tornadoes can often be swiftly dealt and ameliorated with by throwing public money and resources at the affected area, but with floods things are different. Ambush Predator added: ‘Nothing can be done to help people put their lives back together until the waters have fully receded.’
Because of the absolute devastation that Hurricane Harvey has inflicted on the people of Texas, which is the state that has been the most badly hit by the disaster people there need help urgently. Therefore, I would like to draw the attention of the readers of this blog to an appeal that has been set up by a local Texan TV station in partnership with the Salvation Army.
You can find details of the appeal by visiting the website of the KXAN station by following the link below. Please give whatever you can to help those who in many cases have lost everything.
