I’ve seen the news that the Chief Rabbi of Milan has recently died and that he left behind him a spiritual testament that was read out to the Milanese Jewish community last Wednesday. The statement by Rabbi Giuseppe Laras zt”l, said that he had lived through momentous and sometimes tragic times that had encompassed the Shoah, the re-establishment of the State of Israel, the 1967 war and the rise of Islamic terrorism and the intellectual and moral travails of Western civilisation.

The late Rabbi also pointed out that the political Left had ‘betrayed Jews’. In a translation of Rabbi Laras’ testament Breitbart said:

“Today, I am witness to the emergence of a new wave of anti-Semitism, especially in its ambiguous form of anti-Zionism, the betrayal of the Left and the rapid intellectual and moral decline of Western civilization,” he wrote.

Breitbart then added:

The Left’s betrayal of Judaism was born out of the tragedy of 1967, Laras declares, when with the Six Days War, European and Communist Leftists turned their backs on Israel, following Moscow and an ideological “anti-imperialist” reflex from which—he said—they are still struggling to recover.

From where I sit as a person of the Centre Right but who was once a man of the Left, I have to say that the Rabbi is correct. The Left have betrayed Jews. The Left, especially in places like the UK, switched post 1967 from supporting the right of Jews to have a homeland in Israel, into outright hostility first towards Israel and then hostility to Jews themselves. Although I cannot speak with any great detailed knowledge about the Italian Left, I do know that the British Left is now riddled with Jew-hatred. This situation has worsened as the Left has decided that appeasing Islam, a notoriously anti-Semitic belief system, and its followers is an absolute priority even if it means turning the UK Labour Party into a club for the sort of people for whom The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is normal bedtime reading. It used to be the case that if you wanted to find rabid Jew hatred in the UK post 1945, then you would look towards the dregs of Sir Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists. Now sadly, all we need to do is look to the political Left in general and the Labour Party in particular if we want to find rabid Jew haters.

Without a doubt the Left have betrayed the Jewish people, the behaviour and attitudes of Leftists has plainly shown that. But, the Left have not only betrayed Jews, the Left have betrayed the entire free world. Christians, secularists, LGB people, women, children and many more groups and individuals have been betrayed by the Left. The working classes who believed that the mainstream Left would have their backs have also been monstrously betrayed by Leftists. The political Left abandoned the same working classes which helped to build Leftist parties such as the UK Labour Party. The Left destroyed working class communities with moral relativism, policies that attacked families, an increase in dependency on the State, destructive levels and inappropriate types of immigration, the evisceration of things like freedom of speech and the divisive disaster of identity politics.

The left held up to people idols called ‘justice’ and ‘fairness’, but the reality was that the people got neither. These idols were hollow, empty and false, just like the idols smashed by the Biblical Patriarch Abraham. Instead of real solid honest justice we got relativistic false justice and instead of fairness we got the disgraceful idea that people should be treated differently according to whatever social or racial or cultural group that they belonged to.

We’ve all be shafted by the left, but Jews in particular have been exposed to the dangerous phenomenon of Islamic anti-Semitism by Leftists who pretended to care, but who desired only power over others, even power over the citizen’s words and thoughts. I do not believe in the existence of a ‘Satan’ or a ‘Devil’ but if such a creature existed, it would surely be carrying a red flag and speaking the false but honeyed words of the political Left.

May the memory of this righteous Rabbi be for a blessing and may we all heed his words on the Left, before the Left completely destroys the nations and societies that we, whether we be Jewish, Christian or of no belief, have taken so much hard work, pain and suffering to build.
