The You Tube personality and cultural commentator Sargon of Akkad, is not the sort of person you would immediately reach for if you wanted an example of a dangerous extremist. He doesn’t incite violence and neither to my knowledge has he ever incited online mobs to go after the objects of his criticism. Sargon is the very model of a modern classical liberal and in no way the sort of individual who could possibly justify censoring. If ever there was a man who listens to both sides and then comes to an opinion based on evidence then it would be Sargon.
But amazingly, and worryingly not for the first time, Sargon of Akkad’s material which resides on Google-owned platforms, has been censored. The item that was put into what is sinisterly termed as a ‘limited state’ was a video, one of Sargon’s ‘This Week In Stupid’ pieces, that among other things dissected the views of racialist trans-nutter Monroe Bergdorf and criticised the Labour Party for appointing her as an LGBT+ advisor to the party. In this video Sargon also mocked Chinese media and internet censorship and expressed worries about the increasing repressiveness of the Chinese government. Sargon also spoke of the problem of extremism in Islamic education in the United Kingdom and stated that he comes from a position where he disagrees with all religious schools.
There was little in this video that differed from some of Sargon’s other output. It was not more ‘extreme’ than any other video he has made that I have seen and neither was the subject matter at much variance to any other example of Sargon’s product.
I was alerted to this latest incident of You Tube censorship by Dave Cullen of Computing Forever who commented on how Sargon’s video had disappeared. Like Mr Cullen I see the removal of Sargon’s video as an affront to the concept of free speech and I agree with him that for those who choose to stay on You Tube they will be faced with the prospect of self censorship in order to keep their channel.
I must admit I find the effective shadowbanning of Sargon’s video by You Tube very worrying. It is a sign of the increasing censorship of this platform. This is a bit of a watershed moment to be quite frank. If the self appointed censors of You Tube and other Google products can take down someone who is as reasonable as Sargon, then the future doesn’t look that bright for those creators on You Tube who may have views that are more challenging to the Left than those held by Sargon.
Note: Thankfully Sargon has a back up plan which is a channel on the Bitchute platform which is relatively censorship free. You can access this particular ‘Week in Stupid’ video by visiting the link below.
