UPDATE: Sargon has made a highly entertaining video about the invasion of a libertarian event by Left wing fascists. In the video he shows off the captured antifa flag and points out that the leftists actions have been thoroughly counter productive for the leftists who are trying to shut down events like this. I have embedded the video at the bottom of this piece
One of the hallmarks of classical fascism of the sort that ran countries and plunged the world into conflict in the middle part of the 20th century, is a hostility to free speech and the free expression of ideas. Therefore there is a delicious irony in a bunch of self proclaimed ‘antifascists’ who purport to be against the authoritarianism of fascism, shutting down a freedom of speech event in London.
According to reports both in the mainstream media and from alternative media sources, a gang of between ten to fifteen people vaulted over barriers at the King’s College London venue, threw smoke bombs, attacked security guards and physically assaulted those who were hoping to attend the meeting set up by the KCL Libertarian Society. Several of the security guards who were assaulted by the violent leftist thugs had to attend hospital to have their injuries attended to by medical staff.
The event, at which both the Israeli-American Objectivist entrepreneur and writer and chairman of the Ayn Rand Society, Yaaron Brook and the Liberalist You Tube personality Sargon of Akkad, were due to speak was eventually cancelled because of the invasion of left wing thugs. The Leftists, who according to the You Tube channel NAK, came from a variety of pro-‘Palestine’ and far Left groupuscules, smashed windows, used megaphones to drown out and disrupt the speakers and left notes threatening the moderators of the event.
You can see from the video below that comes from the NAK video on the KCL incident that the so-called ‘antifascists’ are doing a pretty good impression of violent fascists, by shutting down an event where opinions may be expressed that the antifascists do not like.
There is another video embedded below, from another source, Hot News Daily, that is comprised almost entirely of stills but which show some of the sheer thuggishness with which the Leftists behaved.
It’s pretty obvious who the bad guys are in this incident and it’s not those who merely wish to engage in open and peaceful debate. It is Antifa and the middle class leftists from the Kings College socialist groups who are the villains here. It is they who cannot stomach the thought that someone somewhere may not be in agreement with them and also the self described antifascists who for all the world looked like the Brownshirts of a bygone and unlamented era.
I have to say that the reporting of this event by the mainstream media was a prime example of shoddy and lazy journalism. Rory Tingle and Miles Dilworth writing for the Daily Mail for example said this of Sargon of Akkad.
“Last night’s event was organised by the KCL Libertarian Society and featured Ayn Rand Institute director Dr Yaron Brook alongside controversial YouTube personality Sargon of Akkad, real name Carl Benjamin.
Mr Benjamin identifies as a ‘classic liberal’ but has been branded by critics as a member of the ‘alt-right’.”
This is shockingly bad journalism. Firstly Sargon isn’t really that controversial, he’s a classical liberal, a man opposed to racism, a defender of democracy and freedom and a creator who although I may not agree with everything he says, does a damn good job of finding the evidence to back up his opinions. Sargon is only controversial to those who cannot cope with the idea of free and open debate. In other words, Sargon is only ‘controversial’ if you are a ‘snowflake’ who considers themselves ‘wounded’ by opinions with which they disagree. I also have to take issue with the comments of the Mail’s reporters that critics have said that Sargon is part of the ‘alt right’. Sargon is not part of the alt-right, he may sometimes engage in discussion with members of this political current, but he is most certainly not from it. Even the most cursory examination of Sargon’s output would have shown that Sargon’s place on the political spectrum is liberal or even mildly centre-Left. Messers Tingle and Dillworth should really have delved a little more deeper into the matter of Sargon’s views than quoting nameless critics who have dubbed Sargon ‘alt right’. I will be charitable on this occasion and say that these two reporters may not have had enough time to examine this incident properly and its background in a little more detail before the paper went to press, but to some the use of Sargon’s name and the words ‘controversial’ and ‘alt right’ may look a little like an attempted smear.
This event was shut down by left wing fascism, make no mistake about that. It was the masked thugs of the Left who injured people and destroyed property in their effort to stop the free expression of views. These are not the actions of anybody or any group who claims to respect freedom or who claim to be opposed to fascism, they are instead the actions of fascists themselves. Now that the idiots of the campus left and the far left masquerading as anti-fascists have disrupted the meetings of those with whom they disagree the question arises as to what this group of lefty arseholes are going to do for an encore, a bit of book burning perhaps?
I expect that they’ll be off to smash up a Jewish-owned businesses, kick over a few grave-stones, or scream mohammedan war-cries outside the Israeli embassy. Those are on the standard thug’s tick-list somewhere between torturing a cat and stabbing a policeman, aren’t they ?
(Are these the same lot who were outside the embassy alongside Owen Jones after Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital? Has anybody got good photos of both events ? Were any of them on the teaching-staff, as was the case in attacks at Berkeley etc? or is this the lot from the LSOAS ?)
Still, Theresa May was out there trying to “out-Corbyn Corbyn” with her insolent criticisms of Donald Trump and support for Intifa in Charlottesville, so she has given carte blanche for the same thing here.
