The image of the equity feminist academic and writer Christina Hoff-Sommers is not exactly the first one that would pop into ones head when you hear the word ‘fascist’, she isn’t. If anything she is one of the archetypal classic liberals of this world. You would be hard pressed indeed to find anything that could genuinely connect Ms Hoff-Sommers with fascism of any kind, not racialism, not authoritarianism, not the suppression of ideas and speech and I certainly don’t see Ms Hoff-Sommers tooling up and invading Poland any time soon.
However the mad Left, a generation of the left that has been in large part created by educational entities that have been throughly and completely captured by those favourable to socialism, think differently. To them Ms Hoff-Sommers’ scholarly taking apart the various shibboleths of the left such as the ‘gender pay gap’ and her willingness to debate with others with whom she may disagree on few or many points, is an indicator of ‘fascism’.
The great and terrible irony is Ms Hoff-Sommers is being accused of ‘fascism’ by those who are using the sort of bullying and intimidatory tactics that have characterised fascist regimes of the past. Also like fascism we have the spectacle of leftist activists, behaving like Brownshirts and doing their very best to not allow any speech that challenges the dominant ideology.
I was both horrified and amused at the video of the protests in Portland, Oregon, USA, that Ms Hoff-Sommers was subjected to. I was horrified because the silencing of dissident opinions and opinions that run counter to some people’s ideologies is a characteristic of authoritarian thought, including that of fascism. On the other hand I was amused by the protesters as although they may have been loud and obnoxious, they were also weak. They are weak because these activists are nothing special, they are Trustafarians LARPing as revolutionaries. They have nothing constructive to say. All that they have are their slogans a we can easily see this from the protest against Ms Hoff-Sommers. The protesters didn’t engage they just stated in a monotone inflection the slogans they’d been drilled with such as ‘Trans people exist, black lives matter, the wage gap is real, trans lives matter’ etc etc. They had no counter argument to Ms Hoff-Sommers and her ideas, just the empty and meaningless word salads that they’d been taught to recite.
It’s time for those of us who respect the concept of the free exchange of ideas and of freedom of speech and debate to stand up to the sort of leftist fascists that tried to stop Ms Hoff-Sommers from speaking. It’s time for the adults to take over when these arseholes turn up to try to stop people the left disagree with from speaking, to push back at them, using reasonable physical force if necessary, in order to defend our right and the rights of others to speak, from the bullies intention to censor.
This is a great video and I commend Ms Hoff-Sommers on her dignity in the face of these Leftist fascists.
