Friday Night Movie number 125 – The Mob

A really gripping organised crime drama from the 1950’s for you this week. ‘The Mob’ stars Broderick Crawford as Johnny Damico, a police detective who botches up a murder enquiry and finds himself suspended, or so it seems to the public.

In reality Johnny Damico has instead been assigned to an undercover police operation to try to clear out organised crime from the New York waterfront and to try to catch a crime boss who has murdered his way to the top. Damico pretends to be a minor criminal who has come from a different state and manages to get himself noticed by the gang boss by throwing his weight around. Damico becomes a confidante of the crime syndicate and manages to infiltrate the waterfront gang.

As Damico gets deeper and deeper into the crime organisation he starts to find out that there were many things about the case that were not as they first seemed and neither are the people surrounding him.

This was a really nicely done film and I was delighted to discover it. I hope that you enjoy it too. As a bit of trivia please watch out in this film for Charles Bronson in one of his very early parts as a waterfront worker.
