There is an absolutely brilliant article written by Madhia Afzal on the website Quartz India, that really and solidly identifies one of the major reasons, apart from the ideology of Islam itself, why Pakistan is such an appalling hate-filled shithole. Madhia Afzal writes eloquently of the poor quality and heavily biased textbooks that are served up for Pakistani schoolchildren and students.
The Quartz India article speaks of the hostile attitudes towards non-Muslims and the tacit approval of jihad that is inculcated in Pakistani citizens by the sort of educational materials that they are all too often presented with.
Madhia Afzal said:
The textbooks’ rendering of history is decidedly one-sided. Leading to independence, Muslims are described as the wronged party, the victims of conspiracies by the British and Hindus (the “evil collusion between the Congress [party] and the British” is an example of the kind of language used). The Muslims of the subcontinent are depicted as good, their intentions always sincere; the other side is described as the opposite. The language used is noteworthy for its starkness and lack of nuance. Hindus are at times described as “evil”; at others, “cunning,” and sometimes simply as the “enemy.”
In early chapters, they extol warfare that occurred pre-partition against armies of other religions, and describe it in religious terms, as jihad.
When I read stuff like that I can’t help but think about what chance do Pakistanis have to become more tolerant, civilised and peaceful and less Islamically savage, if their school textbooks are little more than conspiracy theories, false victim hood claiming and incitement to hate non Muslim Pakistani citizens? Although I have contended and still contend that it is the ideology of Islam and its prominent place in Pakistani society that has ruined the nation since independence, repair of the country for all its citizens will be virtually impossible if successive generations of Pakistani schoolchildren are taught nothing but Islam and hatred. I may take the piss out of Pakistan on a regular basis but I would prefer it if I didn’t have to and Pakistan joined the civilised world but with textbooks as exist in Pakistan, I don’t see that happening any time soon.
I would strongly advise people to read the article by Madhia Afzal as it explains why things are unlikely to change in Pakistan unless they stop teaching their citizens to hate. You can read the full and very informative article via the link below.
