This was not an effective protest – This was an easily exploited embarrassment

I’m a Brexiteer, I believe that Britain should be free to make its own laws, forge its own alliances, defend its own borders and be governed by those whom the nation chooses to govern them. I’m also a believer in political protest including protest that involves non violent direct action. However I’m also politically savvy enough to realise that those who protest need to choose the most effective methods of protest, aimed at the correct targets and carried out in such a way that it doesn’t hand the opponents a stick to beat the protesters or their political cause with.

In my opinion a recent pro-Brexit protest (video HERE and HERE ) that involved blocking the path of a Remain campaign bus was the very opposite of an action that was effective, correctly targeted or one that didn’t hand their opponents a stick to beat them with.

Blocking the path of this bus was not effective, at least not in the sense that it would draw support for the Brexit cause. It might have been fun for those who took part in it but I think that this protest failed dismally. It gave the impression to me at least that the protestors were not willing to entertain the political views of others, which puts them in the same category as arch Remainer Anna Soubry, who will never ever admit that the Brexiteers may have a point. It would have been far better in my view to let the Remainers go on their way, let them have their say and challenge the Remainers to a proper debate, but no they did not do that. They just blocked those whose opinions they did not approve of. In this aspect the protesters behaved little better than the SJW Left.

It was certainly not correctly targetted. Blocking the path of a bus load of Remainers would do absolutely nothing to convince those on the bus that the protestors had an alternative view that was worth giving consideration to. A correctly targetted demonstration would have concentrated on those whose minds could be changed by argument, not those such as those on the Remainer bus who had already made up their minds. The energy expended and wasted on this pointless jolly could have been spent on convincing people to vote UKIP or informing the very many non politicals among us of the virtues of leaving the EU.

Thirdly and finally, this protest has done little more than given the Remainers a stick to beat Brexiteers with. There was no attempt to engage the Remainers in debate and it looked more than a little childish to block the road and shout ‘we will survive’. This protest will be exploited by the Remainers, not just those on the bus but the others who voted Remain for what they believe were solid reasons. This protest has allowed the Remainers to portray Brexiteers as morons and sadly with some good reason.

I did hope that the use of the Yellow Jacket motif could have been used effectively by pro-Britain protestors but sadly I seem to have been a bit mistaken about this. This particular protest, instead of being positive, effective and well targetted, which it should have been has instead at least in this instance become a bit of an embarrassment. This protest does little to make me want to don a yellow vest and protest and sadly I think that there may be other reasonable Brexiteers who may be beginning to think the same.
