Every now and again there comes along a story that shows the claim that ‘Islam is a religion of peace’ to be little more than a bald faced and cynical lie. Today’s story about the Lewisham Islamic Centre is one of those tales.
I’ve written before about the Lewisham Islamic Centre, it’s links to extremism and its thoroughly nasty Imam Shakeel Begg. I’ve documented (links below) the way that Begg lost a High Court libel case over claims that he was an extremist (the court said he was), and how he has built links with various useful idiots and foolish left wing religious types, such as retired Liberal Rabbi Janet Darley. I’ve also expressed horror at how the local authority in which the mosque resides, the London Borough of Lewisham, is so mired in political correctness that they allowed Begg to address a meeting calling for more Muslim foster parents. In addition to these many and varied problems it should also be recalled that it was this mosque that the murderers of Fusilier Lee Rigby chose to worship at prior to the brutal killing or an off duty British soldier.
Although I’m one of the first to admit that not all Muslims are extremists and some individual Muslims wear their religious beliefs lightly, Shakeel Begg is not one of those Muslims. Shakeel Begg really is the worst of the worst when it comes to extremism and his mosque is little better. There is now little doubt in my mind that Lewisham Islamic Centre is little more than a nest of extremist nutcases and an entity that should if possible be forcibly shut down by the UK government.
If the boot was on the other foot and it was a group of Christians or Jews were relaxed about the idea of religious violence, unlikely I know, or who had harboured murderous extremists, then you could bet your bottom dollar that the Government would do something pretty quickly about such an entity. Sadly, nothing has been done about the dangerous excrescence that is the Lewisham Islamic Centre and this group of dangerous and extremist Muslims seem inexplicably to be given a free pass by non Muslim religious figures, the government and the local authority.
The latest extremism scandal to emerge from the Lewisham Islamic Centre concerns the mosque’s Scout Group. According to a report on the 18th January 2019 in the Daily Telegraph, the Scout Group run by the mosque had been segregating children by gender in contravention of the policy of the Scout Association and had encouraged girls to record videos advocating for the wearing of the Hijab.
The Telegraph said:
A scout group run from a mosque is being investigated by police after a Telegraph investigation linked it to an Islamic extremist and a man associated with Holocaust denial.
The Scout Association raised the alarm after the Telegraph found the Lewisham Islamic Centre had been segregating groups by gender, despite the Scout’s own commitment to mixed-sex groups.
The investigation also found girls as young as five in the group have been encouraged to record videos advocating wearing the hijab and that contrary to the Scouts own commitment to ‘British Values’, the group’s leader Ahammed Hussain has admitted to encouraging the members to be ‘Muslims first’.
Hussain was on Friday night suspended by the Scouts pending an investigation into the allegations uncovered by the Telegraph and the group was reported to the Metropolitan Police over safeguarding concerns.
Reacting to the Telegraph’s findings, a spokesman for the Scouts said: “The safety of young people in our care is our number one priority and we treat any allegations with the utmost seriousness.”
Revealing the mosque’s scout academy for children aged 10 to 14 had been suspended at the end of last year for failing to follow the correct administration procedures, the spokesman added: “We are opposed to extremism in any form. We have a clear code of conduct and process for dealing with matters like these. We were notified of the most recent concerns on Friday the 18th January.
“We have suspended a volunteer, launched a full investigation and reported these allegations to the Metropolitan Police.”
This isn’t a one off error by the mosque of the sort that could be glossed over or dealt with by giving the mosque advice on correct behaviour. This religiously corrupted Scout group is part of a long standing pattern of extremism and encouragement of extremism that this mosque and Shakeel Begg has been involved in.
I am very pleased to see that the Metropolitan Police are getting involved and that they are treating this as a child safeguarding matter. What has apparently occurred at the Lewisham Islamic Centre’s Scout group goes way way beyond what should be acceptable, even in a Scout group that has a local religious character. I very much doubt that the Scout groups run by Methodists or Jews or Sikhs would have the sort of extremist character of the sort that we see in the Lewisham Islamic Centre’s group. Neither would they be run by the sort of extremists such as Lewisham Islamic Centre’s Scout leader Ahammed Hussain, who is alleged by the Telegraph to have strong links with a number of extremist and anti Semitic Islamic groups.
The Lewisham Islamic Centre has been given more than enough chances to reform, to show the rest of us that they mean no ill-will towards the rest of the UK population and they have failed to do either. The mosque is still presided over by a known extremist, Shakeel Begg, has a record of inviting extremist speakers and now their Scout group has been shown to be corrupted by Islamic extremism. This mosque needs to be shut down by the Government and it needs to be shut down soon. It is unlikely that that this mosque will get any better over time, it is much more likely that it will get worse and become more extremist as time goes by.
I would advise readers of this piece who are angered by the goings on at this nest of extremist nutcases to make use of the political process and complain about this mosque and to ask why a mosque so thoroughly linked to extremism is still operating? People should write strongly worded but polite complaint letters both to their local Member of Parliament and to the MP who represents the area in which the mosque resides, Labour’s Vicky Foxcroft.
