Over my lifetime I’ve met a lot of evangelists. Some have been Christian ones and others have evangelised for their own particular social, spiritual or political ideologies. The vast majority of such people when politely told to ‘go away’ do so and that is the end of the matter. However some of those who evangelise for Islam are not just persistent, but incredibly violent. I put this down to the fact that Islamic theology allows for Islam to be spread by the sword and is excessively intolerant of other people’s belief systems. Unlike with say Christianity and Judaism where violence in the pursuit of the spread of these faiths is an aberration, such violence is an integral part of Islam.
One recent story that illustrates the violence that lies behind some Islamic evangelism or Dawa has come out of Nigeria. According to a report in the Nigerian Daily Post (h/t ROP) a man was said to have been stabbed to death by a raging angry Muslim for refusing to convert to Islam. One other person was stabbed and suffered injuries and the alleged assailant also damaged cars during his knife Dawa rampage.

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on Tuesday remanded one Habeeb Eletu, for allegedly stabbing to death, a man over his refusal to accept Islam.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the defendant, 26, whose plea was not taken, is being tried for malicious damage and murder.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Kehinde Omisakin told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 22, at 9.00p.m., at Awoyaya Town in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
Omisakin said the defendant allegedly became furious and dashed out at night on the said date, confronting whoever came his way to accept Islam.
The defendant was said to have insisted that whoever refused to accept his religion would either be stabbed or have his property damaged.
The prosecutor alleged that in the process, the defendant maliciously damaged a Toyota Camry marked LND 568 FM (Lagos) and a Honda saloon car marked GGE 478 AM (Lagos).
She said in the process, the defendant stabbed one Ojo, 27, whose surname was yet to be provided to death, adding that the deceased was stabbed in the chest with a knife.
“The defendant also inflicted deep injuries on the body of one Adedoyin Ayedun,” she said.
Either this defendant is severely mentally ill or this is a case of evangelism by thuggery or even a mixture of the two causes. However this is the sort of violent behaviour by Muslims when promoting their ideology that is not isolated. Across the world there is intimidation by Muslims of religious minorities in places like Pakistan, Sudan, Somalia, Malaysia, the Philippines etc. Even in places where Muslims are themselves a religious minority, such as in the United Kingdom, there have been attacks on Christians. In one recent case a Muslim man spat on and intimidated a wheelchair bound Christian evangelist in London a crime for which the Muslim savage was thankfully gaoled for four years.
Like it or not, Islam is not the ‘religion of peace’ that those in authority and the naive ‘nice but dims’ of the interfaith set try to tell us it is. Although I concede that there are indeed many genuinely peaceful Muslim individuals, Islam the ideology itself is far from peaceful. Islam is a violent ideology, a supremacist ideology and one that will not take no for an answer. One innocent man lies dead and another has been seriously injured because they refused one man’s call for them to embrace Islam. Sadly I don’t think that this alleged assailant is an aberration, there are many more Muslims out there who are more than willing to engage in a little ‘knife Dawa’ and if we are to defeat such people then we need to be aware of what Islam is, which is a death cult, and what it is not, which is a peaceful faith.
