Another alleged fake hate crime – This time it is one that could have had dire consequences

The Jussie Smollett fake ‘hate crime’ case has kept much of the world entranced. People are fascinated by this case as it illustrates the appalling desire that some have to be seen as victims of ‘hate’ but also the sheer stupidity of the alleged crime itself. It also shows the world the main problem with all ‘hate crime’ laws, which is that they are incredibly easy for dishonourable and dishonest people to exploit them.

Some may assume that most of these fake hate crimes take place in the Western world where there is a twisted cultural premium put on being a victim. Claiming victimhood, even falsely, can elicit sympathy, advance a political cause or even bring money from both government and the gullible into the faker’s pocket.

However, not all allegations of fake hate crime happen in Western lands that have stupidly created such laws, the fake ‘hate crime’ described below seems to have been done for sheer devilment and the desire to cause trouble. According to a report on a Singaporean news site, The Straits Times, (h/t ROP) a man, who due to the demographics of Malaysia is most likely to be Muslim, placed Chinese idols on the wall of a Mosque causing major upsets and disturbances among Muslims.

Because of the strict restrictions on idol worship in Islam this alleged action by the defendant, Helmee Othman, could have caused a significant degree of violence by Muslims. Unlike other faiths that have restrictions on idol worship, there was probably a bigger chance that the offended Muslims would kick off violently than if he’d placed the idols elsewhere.  People could have died at the hands of enraged Muslims (and it some places in the world it doesn’t take much to get them enraged) because of this man’s actions.

The Straits Times said:

A 37-year-old Malay man was charged at the magistrate’s court in Selangor for placing three idols in a surau (small mosque) last week.

Helmee Othman was charged under Section 295 of the Penal Code for desecrating a place of worship.

He is alleged to have committed the offence at the Sabilul Huda surau in Taman Pendamar, near Klang town in Selangor, last week.

Tensions rose when the idols were found at the Muslim prayer house, amid a heated, ongoing by-election in Semenyih, which is also located in Selangor state.

The small idols of deities were found on a wall of the mosque last week, according to Malay language daily Kosmo last Saturday (Feb 23), sparking public anger.

In the court before Magistrate Roslizi Sulaiman on Wednesday (Feb 27), Helmee was accused of committing the offence between 4pm and 4.15pm on Feb 20.

Helmee was accused of stealing an idol belonging to one Cheong Lin Chai on Feb 20, for which he was charged under Section 379 of the penal code for theft.

He faces a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both for the charges under Section 295.

In addition, he is also liable to be jailed for up to seven years or fined, or both, if found guilty of stealing the idol.

The accused pleaded guilty to all three charges.

Helmee is being subjected to a mental health assessment as any sane person would have known that this sort of action might cause the Muslims to kick off.

Just as Jussie Smollett cooked up his own ‘hate crime’ and was shown to have done so, so this particular ‘hate crime’ has been shown to be false as well. I wonder just how many of these fake ‘hate crimes’ there are? If it is a phenomenon that doesn’t only afflict the United States and the United Kingdom but places like Malaysia, then it is likely to be that a great deal, although probably not all, ‘hate crime’ reports are either mistaken, groundless or downright frauduent.
