Tommy Goes To Oldham

Author and activist Tommy Robinson

I was not at the rally that Tommy Robinson held in Oldham as part of his campaign for the North West England seat at the European Parliament. But, I have seen a fair bit of video, written accounts and comment about this event, enough in fact to make me very very angry and disgusted.

Whatever one’s view of Mr Robinson, and I would be voting for him if I lived in his constituency, we should all agree, I hope, that all candidates for office should be able to campaign without the threat of violence aimed at either the candidate or their supporters. It’s a basic function of a nation’s police force to allow and protect the right of political candidates and those attending political rallies and events from those who may be violently hostile to them. The police should also facilitate a place for counter protestors, but not do it in such a way that causes public disorder from either one or the other side. Greater Manchester Police failed in both duties at the weekend during the Oldham Tommy Robinson rally.

I am both angry and disgusted at what I have seen of the police conduct. Despite Mr Robinson’s campaign team actively choosing to avoid conflict by selecting an area of Oldham where not only does Mr Robinson appear to have support, but is also one where there are few Muslims. The police however brought along the very Muslims that Mr Robinson and his team had worked so assiduously to avoid,

Video published both from Mr Robinson and from others has been uploaded here and here shows officers from Greater Manchester Police escorting what looked like at least 150 angry, masked up Muslim men across Oldham to near to the Tommy Robinson rally. Some of these Muslims were not even from Oldham, some were from Halifax which is approximately 26 miles away from Oldham.

It has been plain to see from the video and from the various descriptions of the Muslims headed Tommy’s way were not the usual sort of counter-protestors that often turn up at Tommy’s gigs. The usual sort are just middle class SWP members mostly, but this time it was out and out Islamofascists that turned up. These Islamofascists, for that is what this group of Muslim men are, were obviously going not to protest, but to cause violence. This is obvious not just from the demeanour of the men but also the masking and the chants of Allah hu Akbar they were doing whilst on their way to Tommy’s rally.

The police failed to do their duty and protect Tommy and those who had come to listen. Despite it must have been obvious to the police that the Muslim Islamofascists were out to cause violence, they still let them get too close to Tommy’s rally.

The Muslims then started throwing whatever they had brought and whatever they could find at the Tommy rally. These Islamofascists did this despite it being well publicised that Tommy’s event was a family friendly one where Mr Robinson could make his political pitch. The Muslims threw bits of concrete, bricks and even scissors. One woman from Mr Robinson’s rally was seen on video complaining of being glassed in the face by a Muslim but the police seemed to take little or no action over this complaint. Mr Robinson ensured that the children were evacuated from the Rally as soon as it became apparent what was happening.

The police basically brought these Islamofascists so close to Mr Robinson’s demonstration that a conflict, started by the Muslims from what I could see, was almost guaranteed. I don’t normally don the old ‘tin foil hat’ but this is either extreme stupidity on the part of GMP’s Chief Constable Ian Hopkins, or as many online rumours about this incident claim, is a deliberate act to intimidate Mr Robinson? If it is another form of intimidation against Mr Robinson by police officers who have allowed themselves to become politicised, then bringing 150 screaming Islamofascists along as an intimidation tactic, is a new low even for force’s like Greater Manchester.

Bringing these Muslim men who were obviously proceeding with violent intent and not separating them from Tommy’s group enough to stop trouble, is such a basic failure of public order policing that it is astonishing. Now, I’ve been attending demonstrations of one sort or another since I was seventeen in 1980 and I’ve seen a lot of public order policing in action, some of it has been good and some bad. However in most of the demonstrations I’ve ever attended the police have respected the rights of myself and others although I have seen the police behave brutally and stupidly at protests numerous times. Going by my experience of public order policing I have to say that the police behaved with almost criminal stupidity in Oldham. These actions by GMP are giving the public the impression that they were more sympathetic to the ugly Muslim mob they were escorting than anyone or anything else. This is not a good look. The police did not respect Mr Robinson’s rights nor did they respect the rights of people to listen to a political candidate and not to have to face a hail of dangerous objects from screaming Muslim thugs.

The police went far, too far in my view, beyond what should have been required to facilitate counter protest. The police also must have had intelligence that would have told them that there was a group of Muslims with violent intent towards Mr Robinson and that should have ensured that much more robust policing of the Muslims was used than was actually deployed. The police instead treated Muslim men, who any sensible and sane person could see were tooled up and pumped up for violence, with kid gloves.

If this was a similar sized group of say, football supporters, getting a bit lairy and getting ready for violence, the police would have stepped in and nicked any aggressors they could identify. Shout the wrong thing and get nicked, backchat the old bill and your nicked. The police seemed to employ none of these pro-active violence reducing tactics. They just sat back whilst the Muslim thugs pelted the Tommy supporters with dangerous missiles. The police did kick back a bit when they were attacked but they didn’t protect the public. These Bearded Savages whom the police babysat through the town whilst they shouted ‘allah hu akbar’ and issuing threats, may well have killed someone if they had broken through the police lines and got to Tommy’s supporters. I understand that there have been no arrests of any of the Muslims at the time of writing, which adds insult to injury to be quite frank.

What little respect I had for the police evaporated watching the videos of useless police failing to do what they are damn well sworn to do, which is keep the bloody peace. Greater Manchester Police far from keeping violent Muslims and the mostly peaceful Tommy supporters apart, brought along the very Muslim thugs that should have been kept away. It’s as idiotic a tactic as sitting an infectious Ebola patient in a crowded accident and emergency section of a hospital. GMP caused this when it could and should have been avoided. If anyone is thinking of asking what side GMP is on, then the way that they have behaved this weekend gives you the answer and its not a comforting one either.

The police facilitated the transport of Muslim thugs who were plainly intent on violence. They sat back for too long after the Muslims kicked off and they didn’t police the violent Muslims with anything like the vigour that this situation warranted. The police let the Muslims off scot free despite clear evidence of their violence. Greater Manchester Police are a disgrace. They’ve become the sort of police force that one would expect to find in some tinpot third world dictatorship; you know the sort of police forces that Britons used to point to and laugh at?

By their actions and inactions Greater Manchester Police have shown that they are politicised, dishonest and not policing equitably. It should be difficult for any thinking person to trust a police force that has gone down the path that Greater Manchester Police have taken. When the chips were down they appeased a violent Muslim mob, that’s not a very good indication that GMP can be relied upon to protect the area’s non-Muslim’s from Islamic aggression is it? It’s two tier policing at its worst.

GMP also have to be criticised for what they’ve done to the political culture by their actions. This is because by bringing all these violent Muslims to a hitherto peaceful Tommy Robinson Rally, and by policing the Muslim mob in the way that they did, they have to some degree legitimised political violence.

I tend to agree with Sargon of Akkad when he says that a culture of one sided and inequitably punished acts of violence in recent electoral campaigns is creating and legitimising political violence. Also like Sargon I don’t want to see this escalation, opinions being aired and the ballot box are the way to go. The violence that we’ve seen in recent elections seems primarily be coming from the Left. We’ve seen leftists screaming in the face of Sargon and throwing milkshakes and fish over him. The people who feel threatened by mere opinions from the likes of Sargon and Mr Robinson are now getting violent. This, I should not need to say but will anyway, is not a good thing. For Greater Manchester Police to allow or facilitate violence against Mr Robinson and his supporters will only encourage more violent Muslims to get involved and does indeed legitimise a culture of political violence, at least violence from Muslims that is. The involvement of the various forces throughout Mr Robinson’s campaign area, who have tried to interfere in the democratic electoral process, by attempting to intimidate or harass Mr Robinson and his campaign staff, is also deeply worrying. It’s not what we should be seeing. We should instead see the police facilitate equal policing for every candidate, which is not what is happening with regards Mr Robinson.

The people of Manchester and the surrounding areas deserve better policing than they are getting from the GMP. I’m ashamed of the way that they facilitated this trouble and showed blatant one sided policing. It was a revolting display of dhimmitude from GMP and one that is most surely going to rebound on the appeasers some way in the future. Either the Muslims will demand more special privileges or the public’s confidence and trust in the police and their willingness to be policing partners with them, will grow ever smaller. Who in their right mind would trust GMP after this? I know I don’t.

  1. The police by their actions were either grossly inept or complicit in creating the ensuing mayhem.

Either way they are not fit for purpose.

Don’t forget the endorsement that Theresa May gave to the thugs of Antifa etc as part of her insolent comments regarding Donald’s Trump’s response to the violence in Charlottesville.

When a Conservative PM endorses Left-wing thuggery, you know you’ve turned a corner in the downhill road to ruin.

Antifa are no better than Mosley’s Blackshirts and just as thuggish. May seems to endorse any left wing guff that comes along, she is unfit to be PM and it is difficult to describe her as a proper Tory.

  3. If you are waiting for competence from Greater Manchester Police Farce, you are going to have a very long wait. That GMP stood by and did sod all is far from surprising. Had anybody said something nasty about the “religion of peace” (The Peace of the Dead perhaps?) GMP would have nicked the “Far-Right” victims of the Islamic Defence League, surely they could have acted and they would had it been the EDL. By the way, why does nobody demand the disbandment of this group, although Antifa and the like will protest to support them from the wicked racists.

Yup, if the boot was on the other foot and someone had insulted a ‘Roper’ then GMP would be kicking in doors to sort it out. I have little confidence that GMP will arrest the violent Muslims, I think that they are bullshitting us when they say that they will investigate the violence.

There appears to be enough evidence to bring a private prosecution, against at least any one of the Police officers, of dereliction of duty or malfeasance in a public office. Also, as it is assumed that everything they do is with the implied knowledge and permission of the Chief Constable, including him in the prosecution should be considered.
Perhaps someone who was there, and has the evidence, may wish to initiate the proceedings?

    • Fahrenheit211 | May 21, 2019 at 6:15 am |

Yes, I’d like to see legal action taken against GMP as well. There is enough evidence out there that the police misbehaved here.

  5. Very disturbing behaviour by the police. This does not bode well!

I agree there. It’s disgusting to see the police deliberately bring a bunch of violent Muslims to Tommy’s event. Like you I also think that this doesn’t bode well at all. It gives the impression that the police, or rather police managment, have changed sides and will back the Muslims whatever the cost to our freedoms.

The late Sam Francis often wrote about what he termed ‘Anarcho-Tyranny’:

What we have in this country today, then, is both anarchy (the failure of the state to enforce the laws) and, at the same time, tyranny—the enforcement of laws by the state for oppressive purposes; the criminalization of the law-abiding and innocent through exorbitant taxation, bureaucratic regulation, the invasion of privacy, and the engineering of social institutions, such as the family and local schools; the imposition of thought control through “sensitivity training” and multiculturalist curricula, “hate crime” laws, gun-control laws that punish or disarm otherwise law-abiding citizens but have no impact on violent criminals who get guns illegally, and a vast labyrinth of other measures. In a word, anarcho-tyranny.

    (‘Synthesizing Tyranny’, April 2005, Chronicles.)

A police state by proxy. The problem with Gestapos and Chekas kicking in people’s doors at 3AM or carting people off the street for a slightly incorrect ID is that such bodies identify the State as the focal point against which to resist. But an ad hoc army of chavs, crims, jihadis, etc. presents no such focus. We don’t fear the State kicking in our door, we fear the home invasion; we don’t fear the State stopping us in the street, we fear the mugger or street-gang. We don’t fear the State denouncing us as a ‘counter-revolutionary’ but SJWs screaming about us being ‘racist’ or whatever-ist. It keeps people scared, it keeps them quiet, and it keeps them clamouring for more laws and regulation—begging for our own chains.

The police did not fail in their duty but were performing their role of loyal servants of the liberal Establishment, keeping the inmates of the open-air prisons that are Western liberal democracies in line.

Some really good points there. I agree with the comment on anarcho-tyranny and I believe others have made a similar observation on how we are currently governed. I also concur with you when it comes to the outsourcing of oppression. The police, as Sargon once said, have now become intersectional police enforcers and this is something that we all lose from.
