As I have often said on here, there is a difference between those who choose to convert to Islam and those who choose to convert to Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, neo-Paganism or any other major faith. That difference is violence. It’s rare indeed to find someone who has converted to a religion other than Islam to engage in religious violence or other forms of religiously inspired aggression. Unfortunately, it’s all too normal and regular to find those who choose Islam also choosing religious violence. This I believe is down to the fact that much of Islamic scripture is violent and more importantly encourages violence.

Violence in Islamic scripture is not the same as the violence that can be found in the Jewish Torah for example. Violence in the Torah is normally a historical record of violence that occurred long in the past and which was violence in specific circumstances many of which would not apply today. Jews do not stone adulteresses to death anymore and neither do Jews go on the offensive against polytheists. That was then, this is now. With Islam, the violence in Islamic scripture is not merely a record of violence, but instead a contemporaneous exhortation to commit violence mostly against non-Muslims.

It is the violent nature of Islam that creates the phenomenon of the convert to Islam who swiftly goes bad and chooses violence. This is why we get cases, like the one below, where new Muslims go straight to jihad and ignore any of the less than mainstream peaceful interpretations of Islamic scripture.

Slovakia it seems, has managed to acquire its first ever home grown Islamist. According to a report in the Slovak Spectator, 26-year-old Dominik Kobulnický who converted to Islam in 2015, was gaoled for six and a half years by a court in the neighbouring Czech Republic for propagating terrorism and being a general threat. The report (h/t ROP) said that in addition to the imprisonment he will be deported back to Slovakia after his sentence.

The Slovak Spectator said:

Kobulnický grew up in a strong Christian family. He was introverted in school but secretly watched videos posted by jihadists online. He became so captivated he decided to convert to Islam in 2015, Denník N wrote.

Nobody in his family understood his decision. At that time, he had already worked in the Czech town of Pardubice just like his father. Soon after, he began visiting a small Turkish mosque in Hradec Králové, 30 km away from Pardubice. He studied Islam.

Simultaneously, he was planning a terrorist attack on the bus station in Prešov, eastern Slovakia, as reported by Denník N. He did not carry out the attack in the end.

It seems pretty obvious from this report that this convert to Islam didn’t even bother with any peaceful interpretation of Islam and instead went straight to Jihad. He was so extreme that the Turkish mosque he attended turned him away when he turned up at the mosque wearing military clothing.

Unfortunately this admonishment by other Muslims for his extremism didn’t do anything to deter this convert from following the path of jihad. He travelled to Prague in the Czech Republic and made contact with an Imam there who was later linked with an Islamic terror group Fatah Al Sham.

Whilst in Prague, it became clear that that Kobulnický wasn’t a mere fantasist who talked about jihad but would not do anything. In 2017 Czech police raided his home and found a treasure trove of terrorist material. The Slovak Spectator said: The police found military clothing, videos in Arabic and four kilograms of pyrotechnic compounds under his bed.

He presented his new life also on Facebook. In his phone the police even discovered a picture of a decapitated cat.

The trial of Kobulnický took approximately one year and saw him make excuses for the possession of the pryotechnics which he said was to celebrate new year in Slovakia. He also denied any connection with terror organisations but was found guilty of propagating terrorism.

Sadly this sort of convert to Islam is not unusual. There seems to be an awful lot of people who choose Islam either because they are enamoured with the violent culture of Islam or because individuals who are inherently violent want an outlet for their violent tendencies. When compared to the number of new Christians or new Jews who go bad, the number of new Muslims who go bad is astonishingly high. It’s difficult not to come to the conclusion that those who choose Islam go to the bad at a remarkably high rate and it is for this reason that I believe that both Western states and Western society should be much more suspicious of those who choose Islam. Such individuals are choosing a path that leads them to be a security risk and they should be treated as such.
