There are parts of the United Kingdom where the Labour Party isn’t just disliked, or held in bad favour, but where they are hated and often hated for good reasons, such as the Labour Party being full of Marxist Jew haters who don’t respect democracy for instance. However, despite the Labour Party being a mass of nation wreckers, there can be no excuse or condoning of political violence against Labour candidates or Labour canvassers. If you use violence to attack your opposition then you’ve lost a major part of the moral ground that you stand on. In a democratic society the weapon of choice to use against dangerous ideologues like the Labour Party should be the ballot box not the fist.
Like any normal patriot I want to see the Labour Party destroyed for what it has done to this country, but I want to see it destroyed by peaceful electoral means and not by violence. I have to state (again) my position on political violence as there has been a worrying incident in Bromyard in Herefordshire recently where a Labour activist was allegedly assaulted by a member of the public. This sort of thing should and must be unacceptable in a democratic society even when the representative of the party being attacked is from such an odious group as the Labour Party.
Even though this is an area where Labour are heartily disliked, often for damn good reasons, attacks on Labour activists are wrong in and of themselves. By all means argue with these Labour morons or take the piss out of them should they knock on your door trying to get you to vote for them (I’m longing for a Labour canvasser to knock on my door so that I can tell them exactly why I hate them) but pushing people to the ground should not be an acceptable way of dealing with them.
An article in the Worcester News which is carrying this story makes for worrying reading but also highlights just how much anger there is in the political environment and country at the moment. Personally I’d like to see this anger directed to its targets via the ballot box and not by any other means. Below you will find an excerpt from the Worcester News report along with my comments. As is usual policy the original text from the Worcester News is in italics whereas my comments are in plain text.
The Worcester News said:
A LABOUR Party volunteer in her 70s was injured in a “deeply shocking” assault when tempers became frayed on the general election campaign trail in Bromyard.
North Herefordshire Constituency Labour Party said the campaign team were abused, including being called ‘Marxists’, and obscenities were scrawled across party banners while they were campaigning in the High Street.
In a Facebook post following the incident on Saturday morning, the branch said the elderly canvasser was “pushed over flat into the road” and left “badly shaken”. It is believed she may have suffered cracked ribs.
The article went on to claim that the same woman who ranted and ‘abused’ the Labour activists also pushed over the Labour Party volunteer later on further down the street. Now I have no problem with calling the Labour Party a bunch of ‘Marxists’, because that’s what they’ve become, however I do have a problem with crossing the line and engaging in violence against Labour activists.
The Worcester News added:
A West Midlands Ambulance spokesman said crews in one ambulance were dispatched to the scene at 11.34am.
The woman had received treatment from a community first responder, but she was discharged after declining further treatment.
Police Inspector James Ashton said: “Officers attended and spoke to the victim, who said that she didn’t wish for charges to be brought.
“We continue to engage with both parties to ensure an appropriate outcome for the victim.”
I’m glad to hear that the Labour volunteer doesn’t appear to have been seriously injured but I am surprised not only that the alleged victim didn’t want to press charges but that West Mercia Police officers didn’t override this decision and treat it as assault occasioning ABH or some similar offence. There will of course be speculation as to why the alleged victim did not want to press charges and much of that speculation will centre around the nature of the argument. Did for example the Labour activists dish out just as much abuse as they got from this anti-Labour lady and that is why the party and the activist do not want to air this issue in court? We will not know the truth until either this matter comes before the courts or someone supplies video of the incident. If you or anyone you know has video of this incident them please send it to me and I will put it up for the public to see.
At the end of the day, no matter how disgusting the particular political grouping is, and let’s face it, the Labour Party under Corbyn is seriously disgusting, violence is not the way that we should be settling political disputes. If you want to punish the Labour Party for all the damage that it has done to this country and it’s dismissive attitude to democracy and the vote to leave the EU, then the only weapon you can and should use is the ballot box. Any other method and not only do you step off of any moral highground that you may have, but you also allow Labour activists to paint themselves as ‘martyrs’ and that is the very last thing that we should be encouraging. I want to see the Labour Party destroyed, for the sake of my country and my family which would both suffer badly should Corbyn’s Labour win, but I want to see them destroyed by the voters at the polling stations and not by random bods dishing out violence to Labour activists.
