A subject that I sadly have to keep going back to are the terrible effects that Jihad has had on African peoples. Nations that may already be suffering from existing problems such as poverty, bad governance, corruption and war, are further troubled by a vicious and terrible jihad that has cost the lives of thousands upon thousands of people.
There seems no region of Africa that has not been touched in some way by Jihad. It has been a constant problem for North, South, East and West African nations. Unfortunately, Africa’s Jihad problems are too often less than adequately covered by news outlets in the West because these media entities concentrate mostly on the West’s own problems with Jihad. This ignorance of the African Jihad is both morally wrong and dangerous in practice. It’s morally wrong because by ignoring the African jihad we are ignoring the suffering of innocent people, it’s also wrong practically because we should be aware that what Islamic Jihadis do in Africa today, they will do or try to do in our own nations tomorrow.
There’s a particularly horrific story about the Jihad that Africa is suffering from coming out of Mozambique in South East Africa. At least fifty people have been killed when an Islamic terror group attacked a village looking for recruits for their fighting organisation. The attack, which took place two weeks ago, was described in a Guardian article (h/t ROP) as ‘cruel and diabolical’.
The Guardian said:
An Islamist extremist group in northern Mozambique has killed dozens of villagers in its most bloody attack.
More than 50 people were massacred in an attack in Xitaxi in Muidumbe district after locals refused to be recruited to its ranks, according to police cited by local media. Most were either shot dead or beheaded.
“The criminals tried to recruit young people to join their ranks, but there was resistance. This provoked the anger of the criminals, who indiscriminately killed – cruelly and diabolically – 52 young people,” police spokesman Orlando Mudumane told the state-owned broadcasting service.
The attack occurred more than two weeks ago but details have only emerged now.
Militants have stepped up attacks in recent weeks as part of a campaign to establish an Islamist caliphate in the gas-rich region, seizing government buildings, blocking roads and briefly hoisting a black-and-white flag carrying religious symbols over towns and villages across Cabo Delgado province. The flag is also used by Isis and other Islamic extremists.
This latest attack is little more than a crude and disgraceful slave raid where innocent people are snatched by these Islamic slavers and impressed into their fighting force. This sort of violent slave raid has been a part of Islam since this ideology’s inception in the twisted mind of an immoral Bedouin over 1400 years ago. I would not be at all surprised having seen where the Muidumbe district is on a map, if the villagers that were targeted were not themselves Muslims, Muslims who just want to be left alone to live their lives in peace. As I understand it, Mozambique has a minority Islamic population of about 19% and Islamic trade both in slaves and goods is said to have left its imprint in the form of Muslim believers on the coastal areas of Mozambique. Muidumbe district is near the coast in the North East part of Mozambique.
The Mozambique government has tried to deal with its increasing level of Jihad problems but the fight back has been hampered by poverty and corruption according to the Guardian. The government has even tried hiring in highly trained mercenary soldiers to help out in its fight against the Jihadis but this also has failed.
The African nations are in a terrible position to fight a war against these savage Jihadis. For a nation to take an effective fight to the Jihadis requires a strong, motivated governmental culture that knows that Jihad is a problem that needs to be solved. It also requires money, population who are motivated to get behind an anti Jihad war and a sufficient number of professional and well disciplined soldiery. Sadly many African nations have none of these resources. The Jihad in Africa is not just a problem for the individual nations such as Kenya, Somalia, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Mozambique that suffer from it, the situation is far beyond that now. It’s a problem for every African nation and these African nations need to pull together to fight a threat that will, if left unchecked, enslave and oppress the entire continent.
