It’s Day Two in the ‘Big Savage House’ and the death toll from religiously inspired violence in the Islamic world during Ramadan has already managed to get into two figures. According to the Religion of Peace website which monitors Islamic terror, so far 21 people have been killed in four separate Islamic terror incidents. For comparison, the members of religions other than Islam and those ‘far right extremists’ that the UK government seems to think are more dangerous than Islamic terrorists, have clocked up precisely zero deaths.

No other major religion seems to have such a death toll associated with one its major religious festivals. Sure, Christmas will bring its usual crop of drunks killing themselves and others in road traffic accidents, but we don’t see from Christians, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs or Buddhists, the specfic uptick in religiously inspired violence of the sort that we see every year during Islamic Ramadan. Yes indeed, Islam is different, but not any nice sort of way.

Ramadan is only two days in and we’ve already seen 21 dead. How many more will die of Islamic violence carried out by people who have been driven mad by unwise fasting or who believe that Ramadan is an ideal time to attack either non-Muslims or those whom the terrorists percieve as being the ‘wrong’ kind of Muslim? Last year it edged towards one thousand and the question is will the final score death toll be higher or lower than last year?
