You’d think wouldn’t you that what with all the stabbings, shootings, muggings, gang activity and other real crime that plagues London, that the Metropolitan Police would have enough on their plate. You would imagine that the very last thing that they would be doing would be to set up a web portal for informants dobbing in those who are disobeying the ‘lockdown’ guidance, when they must know that such a portal is going to be merciliessly trolled by Britons pissed off at their piss poor police forces and the uselessness of the ‘service’ they give to the public?
But it seems that this is exactly what the Metropolitan Police have decided to do. They’ve set up a ‘grassline’ on their website in order to attract the sort of petty minded informers that abounded in places like East Germany in the past.
Here’s the link to the Met Police’s Covid19 informant line:
I dare say that this line will atract a few genuine arseholes trying to settle scores with neighbours and friends by informing on them, but it is also likely to attract a whole shoal of trolls and shitposters. I can’t see this project ending well at all, especially as many more Britons than did a few weeks ago, are starting to question both the legitimacy and efficacy of the lockdown measures.
I would certainly not suggest that people should log on with names such as ‘Mr Michael Mouse’ informing on Mr Donald Duck taking more than the regulation number of walks for example on this site in order to mock it, but I believe that this is what is going to happen. I predict that the vast majority of those who contact this informant portal will be doing so only to mock a police force that has long since lost the respect and loyalty of many genuine Londoners and Britons in general.
There is one character whom should be genuinely reported to it though. That is Professor Neil Ferguson, the man who got the Covid19 predictions dreadfully wrong, who broke his own damned isolation rules in order to get a shag off of his lover, an equally wrong and obnoxious ‘green’ campaigner called Antonia Staats. They deserve all that they get for the damage that they have done or would want to do to the world and its economy.
Hi F211.
Well to be honest I’m not sure what to think of this lockdown business now. At the end of last week I decided to venture out to the nearest supermarket which involved a walk through the local town centre. It was busy. People were not abiding by the 2 metres apart rule and didn’t seem to care about it. To top it off, there were still the usual drunks and beggars in every other shop doorway. And guess what? Not a police officer in sight.
I think people have had enough of staying indoors and are taking the risk of going out regardless of what the government advice is. I suppose folk will learn the hard way.
At first I supported it and complied with it on the grounds that it might not do much harm and might do some good. Over time I’ve come to change my mind. I think that people are starting to use their own brains and look around and read around, not so much taking note of tin foil hatters, but comparing Covid19 with things like the 68 Hong Kong flu and the lack of lockdown there even though that disease was pretty deadly. I came across a man in a DIY shop today who was older than me and remembered the 68 flu. He said it as all overblown and the government had panicked. He told me about his mate in the coroners office who is questioning the figures and believes that the govt is talking it all up. If a random middle class seemingly intelligent man like this man I met today is questioning the govt narrative then you can bet your bottom dollar that others are. People are looking at the figures, the real figures, not the ‘shock horror’ ones that the media has been putting out but ONS figures and drawing their own conclusions. Also the bleating by the Left about the ‘heavy burden’ of Covid on Asian/Islamic and BAME types has had an unintentional effect here. Rather than making people sympathise with the bleating of various identity politics groups, the bleating is making those outside these groups think: ‘well I’m not a black person. I’m not a Muslim. I’m not inbred. I’ve never been around TB and I don’t live in a shithole, my chances are better than theirs’. It’s an interesting example of unintended consequences and indeed a reversion to a type of tribalism.
The view I’ve come to is this pandemic is like many others, it’s a bell curve and we are now on the downward slope of it. Yes there is the possibility of a second wave but it is unlikely to be like the second wave in 1918, because we are dealing with a very different and potentially less virulent virus. I’m not denying that in some people Covid can be nasty, my wife had it back in Feb and she was quite rough, on a steroid inhaler for a few days, but it’s not hitting the same types of people that 1918 did, the fit and relatively healthy, it’s hitting those who would normally be carried off by random respiratory infections. I think that the ‘cure’ in the form of the lockdown is worse than the disease. In any event if the person whose shonky figures led us into this mess can’t be arsed to lock down then why should the rest of us?
Well said.
Thank you for the compliment. BTW, as an aside and I might be doing an article in more detail on this later, I think that if it turns out that the Govt has panicked and relied on one source and one source only to make the decision on the lockdown, then it could kill any chance of the Tories being reelected in 2024/2025. Because of the damage that this lockdown has done then this could be one of the biggest government scandals in decades or centuries. It could be bigger than Profumo, bigger than the South Sea Bubble, bigger than Philby, Burgess and Maclean, maybe at least as big or possibly even bigger than the Islamic Grooming Gang scandal. If the government has overstated the problem based on using a singular source to bring about the lockdown then Boris is toast. I don’t think that Labour could force an election prior to the legally required date, the Tories majority is too big, but the Tories may be looking for a new leader unless Boris can blame and have punished the Civil Servants who have so badly advised the government.
I see your point. I think Boris in general has a lot of luck in life. His recent illness an exception of course, but he survived, and I think he will do the right thing by the country in terms of safety etc. I don’t think too many people will hold Boris and the Tories to account as the majority of people I know are pleased to be off work yet still getting paid. The people I imagine that would be up in arms are the ones who have lost their jobs and parents of kids that have been off school or who live in small accommodation with no garden etc. Of course if the government has got it wrong then they should own it but I don’t think Boris has too much to worry about. If people weren’t getting their money it would be a different story. What I do think that needs to be addressed is that there is going to be a global recession and Boris and co are going to have to work very hard to keep this country afloat. That’s when he will be judged because that’s when he will be needed the most. Only time will tell.
