Being the evidence based type of person that I am, I have little time and even less respect for conspiracy theorists, whom I refer to as ‘conspiraloons’. I’ve been consistent in my point of view on this matter for many years. When I see them doing their schtick I either ignore them or challenge them and that’s because I know that once conspiracy theories get out of hand they can sometimes have untoward or even deadly consequences. Two of the most lethal dictatorships of the 20th century, National Socialism and Soviet Communism in large part were supported by those who believed in the various conspiracy theories put out by the leaders of these movements. With the Nazis the conspiracy theory was based around Jews, whilst the Soviets pushed conspiracy theories about Capitalists and the West. Both were wrong.
However, despite being a supporter of evidence based speech and writing, I do not want to see conspiraloons censored. I am like Sargon of Akkad and others, a free speech fundamentalist. The best way to deal with such people is to argue back at them with solid facts, as people like Johann Cater the author of the Titanic Britain book, does in a magnificent way to Flat Earther’s on the Gab platform, or to mock them. What I do not want to see happening is to have conspiraloons censored or, as in this case, see them subjected to alleged police harassment.
Now the Covid19 outbreak has brought forth a whole lot of conspiraloons of various types, but the vast majority of them are relatively harmless, they just talk evidence light rubbish. In the video below which has been put up by Dan of the Police Abusing Powers channel, you can see a police officer harassing a man who had a sign in the back of his car that reads: ‘Covid19 #Plandemic #Endthelockdown and #Fuckthepolice’. Now I want to make it clear that I do not share the views of the person who originally recorded the video on the subject of Covid19. I believe that Covid19 is a very real illness, although it may not be as serious as was at first imagined and certainly is not as serious as the 1918 influenza epidemic or the Black Death. About the only thing I do agree with him on is the need to end the lockdown as it is probably doing more damage to the lives of Britons than the disease itself.
What I do believe is that this conspiraloon should be entitled to voice his opinion even if many others consider it to be bollocks and certainly even if it ‘offends’ a police officer. A free society or one that aspires to be one, should allow all sorts of opinions to be voiced freely and without fear of legal sanction. This is because the only way to tackle bad ideas is to debate them and examine them and pick them apart. By doing this the bad ideas that have no evidence behind them will ideally fall away and the good ideas that do have evidence behind them get taken up by society and become part of society. It is why I believe that those parts of British legislation such as Section Five of the Order Act and the multitude of ‘hate speech’ laws need to be removed. We need a British equivalent of the US First Amendment to the Constitution put in there place, maybe by extending the existing free speech provisions that apply to Parliamentarians in the 1689 Bill of Rights, to all British subjects. The only restrictions that I believe should be on freedom of speech should be where there is a direct and credible threat to kill or destroy. What this conspiraloon has done by way of his poster would in no way breach such a restriction.
You can find the video below. I’ve marked it NSFW as it does contain a considerable amount of swearing by the videographer. What do you think of the police officer’s behaviour here? Personally I think that it is indicative of just how arrogant and capricious some of our police forces have become.
As I said earlier, I don’t agree with a fraction of what the originator of the video says, but I do believe that he should have a right to say it. Personally I think that it is highly dangerous for a society to ban dissident voices, even if those dissident voices are a bit ‘off the wall’. This is because by banning them you inadvertently give them a form of glamour and allow them to pick up more support. We have seen this with the banning from You Tube and Facebook of the conspiraloon David Icke. From what I can see from looking around the web, Icke’s support seem to be growing, not because he has anything valuable or sensible to say, but because the bans have given the perception to the public that Icke must be onto something for the State and Big Tech to ban him.
The police should not be in the position where they are policing British subject’s opinions, but basically this is what appears to have happened in this case. It’s something that needs to stop before the UK police lose what little is left of public respect for them.
haha i love that, support the police graphic, see the police is pretty much same everywhere because they cant work impartially and even if they did they dont work for the public they are drunk with power…during the lockdown we saw in India how they loved beating up people in India. Some cases seemed justified as they were protecting themselves but in so many cases their abuse of power was just amazingly clear.
