Ethiopia is one of the cradles of the world’s Christian civilisations. It’s been a part of the Christian world since 330 CE and the Ethiopian Church is only slightly less ancient than the Roman Catholic church. However, even in Ethiopia a part of Africa where the Christian religion is relatively strong, cannot escape the depredations of jihad. Just like the slaughter of Christians by Muslim jihadists in other parts of Africa, the slaughter of Christians in Ethiopia is mostly ignored or poorly covered by the media in the West.
It has taken the actions of the Barnabas Fund to bring the latest example of slaughter of Christians in Ethiopia to the attention of the world. It appears that the Western media that was so willing to publicise the plight of Ethiopians during the famines of the 1980’s are less willing to talk about the mass murder that Islam has brought to that nation today.
Since June 2020, at least 500 Ethiopian Christians have been murdered in jihad attacks in that nation and nobody apart from Christian groups seems to be talking about it. Here’s what the New English Review quoting from the Barnabas Fund is saying about the jihad disaster that is afflicting Ethiopia.
Barnabas Fund said:
An Ethiopian Christian leader called for an international inquiry into the slaying of hundreds of Christians, including pregnant women, children and whole families, in ongoing Oromo Muslim extremist attacks in the parts of the Oromia regional state, extending south, south-east and east of Addis Ababa, since the end of June. According to reports, more than 500 were killed.
The coordinated killings, targeting Christians from a wide range of ethnicities including Oromo Christians, began soon after the alleged assassination of a popular Oromo singer, Hachallu Hundessa, who was shot dead on 29 June, while driving in the outskirts of the capital.
The attackers are from the Oromo ethnic group, which has traditionally been Muslim, and are members of Qeerroo (meaning, “bachelors”), an Oromo male youth movement.
In door-to-door attacks on Christian households the Qeerroo extremists arrived in cars and, armed with guns, machetes, swords and spears, sought out and slaughtered Christians. Children were forced to witness their parents being brutally murdered with machetes.
Barnabas regional contacts confirmed attacks in numerous towns including Arsi Negele, Ziway, Shashemane, Gedeb Asasa, Kofele, Dodola, Adaba, Robe, Goba, Bale Agarfa, Chiro, Harar, Dire Dawa, Adama, Dera, Asela and Kembolcha, reaching to the far south-east and east of the country.
Some of the Qeerroo militants held lists of Christians and were helped by local authorities, often run by Muslims in the Oromia region, to find individuals, particularly those actively involved in supporting the Church. Oromo ethnic Christians were also targeted.
The Jihad in Africa is the mass murder that is being ignored. It is being ignored by the political classes in the West, by Western media and most certainly is being ignored by the Black Lives Matter movement who don’t seem to give a toss about Black Christian lives being lost in Africa.
The slaughter of Christians by Muslims all across Africa is a human tragedy of monstrous proportions. The free world, or what’s left of it, quite rightly criticises the Chinese government over its treatment of that country’s Muslim minority when China shoves its Muslim population into concentration camps, yet says little or nothing when Muslims engage in the mass murder of Christians right across Africa including Ethiopia the cradle of Christian civilisation on that continent. It’s shameful in the extreme to ignore the plight of African Christians and dangerous for us in the West as well. We need to see and hear what this savage and violent ideology is doing in Africa as I have little doubt that the sort of slaughter that Islam has brought to the Christian population of Africa is what Muslim militants would want to do in other parts of the world as well.
