I’ve come to find it really tiresome to be around those who believe that Donald Trump is some sort of neo-fascist warmonger. Oddly enough those who come out with such views are often the very same people who get all their news about the world from outlets like the BBC. I wonder if there could be any correlation between being a purveyor of anti-Trump BS and large consumers of BBC output?

I’ve yet to see the current occupant of the White House be in favour of overseas military adventurism as much as previous occupants have been. All US presidents from George HW Bush onwards have had American troops involved in sometimes long lasting conflicts with indeterminate goals and outcomes. Now I’m not decrying military interventionism per se, sometimes it is necessary, but Donald Trump’s administration is different when compared to recent ones in that there has not been any new major wars during Mr Trump’s time.

Mr Trump appears to want to be seen as a peacemaker and so far looks remarkably successful. On his watch and with the assistance of the US government, peace agreements have come about that a few years ago I might have thought difficult if not impossible. There’s peace now between Serbia and Kosovo which means one of the last running sores from the appalling and damaging Yugoslavian Civil War has been cured. Even more spectacular are the peace and normalisation agreements that have occurred in the Middle East and which have been in part brokered and overseen by Mr Trump’s administration.

Things that were once difficult to imagine such as complete normalisation of relations between Israel and nations such as the UAE and Bahrain are now reality with the signing of a friendship agreement at the White House recently. It’s the sort of thing, one of the few things that come out of the Middle East, that makes me want to dance around my kitchen singing Od Yavo Shalom Aleinu, a song that sings of the thirst for peace.

If individuals truly believe in the idea that peacemakers are blessed, then they may well have to include Mr Trump in the ranks of those blessed as peacemakers. This is something that is surely going to stick in the craw of the Left who hate Mr Trump with a demented passion.
