According to press reports and announcements made by the Home Office, it appears that the United Kingdom is raising its terror threat level from ‘substantial’ to ‘severe’. This means that a terror attack on the UK, most likely by Islamic terrorists rather than malevolent Methodists, is likely.

This is to a large extent to be expected. There has been a massive uptick in Islamic terrorist activity in mainland Europe and it would be foolish to think that Britain, with 43,000 Islamic extremists needing monitoring by the security agencies, would be spared such increased terror from members of the woefully misnamed ‘religion of peace’.

The recent increase in Islamic terror may well be due to the French President Emmanuel Macron, belatedly realising that Islamic separatism and extremism is a problem for his country which has forced him to step up and defend free speech. There is almost nothing more that extremist Muslims hate more than free speech and especially free speech against Islam and violence is often the first response of these Muslims to seeing or hearing things that they don’t like. A national leader from Europe who stands up for free speech is almost certain to create a violent response from extremist Muslims.

The threat level of severe means an attack is considered highly likely. It is the country’s second-highest level. The level had previously been at “substantial,” meaning an attack is likely.

Britain’s Home Secretary Priti Patel tweeted Tuesday that the move was a “precautionary measure and is not based on any specific threat.”

“The public should continue to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police,” she said.

Britain is facing an increased threat because we have a lot of Muslims who lean towards extremism. That’s not to say that this extremism is a majority view in Islamic communities, but there is a significant minority of Muslims who tend towards extremism and recent events in Europe would have fired up these headcases to go ‘full Islam ‘ and carry out terror attacks.

I tend not to take at face value the Home Secretary’s statement that there is no ‘specific threat’. This is not only because I have lost all trust in Pritti Patel the current Home Secretary because of other failures she’s been involved in such as border security, the failure to publish the grooming gang report and her covid related authoritarianism, but because there are a lot of Muslim terror plots going on, some of which the security forces may be aware of, but there may be many of which they may not be aware.

This announcement by the Home Secretary may have been made because some plots by Islamic extremists may already have been compromised by the security forces but others may not be and may still be live. The security forces can easily monitor terror plots that are being formulated online, that’s what places like GCHQ are for, but it is much more difficult to find plotters who are working off line,in small groups and in mosques. It’s likely that there may be many plots in progress, inspired by both foreign and domestic extremists that are active in the UK, but have not been uncovered and this is the reason behind the Home Secretary’s announcement of ‘no specific threat’.

I believe, based on what has happened in mainland Europe that there are threats but I don’t believe that they will be major bomb attacks because acquiring the materials for such devices would probably flag up pretty swiftly on security service monitoring. However I could be wrong on this, systems for monitoring purchases of goods are not perfect. What is more likely to happen is some sort of knife or vehicle attack by unhinged Muslims either working alone of in small cellular groups of the sort that are probably very difficult for the security forces to infiltrate. It’s likely that this announcement has been made because the government must realise that there are small hard to penetrate groups operating and probably being sheltered by and hiding in Islamic communities in the UK. Seeing what has happened in places like France I suspect that we are in for an increased period of Islamic terrorism and that the government is covering their arses with this announcement for when the almost inevitable Islamic attacks come.
