As many who are much more cynical than myself have said, Boris ‘The Bastard’ Johnson is likely to lock us down again in the New Year. This time the government is using the excuse of a new variant of Covid that allegedly appeared back in September but was only announced by this dishonest government this month and used as an excuse to lock down London and the South East.

My morning sojourn onto a site that is now little more than a government mouthpiece posing as a journalistic entity, Sky News, tells me that the Government’s scientific advisors are pushing the Prime Minister for another lockdown in the New Year. If it is true that the new variant of covid was known about in September but only announced recently, then this is yet another example of this government not being straight with the British people about this matter. It is also an example of this government’s propensity for oppressing the people after the viral horse has bolted.   If the claims of a September identification of the new variant are correct then Boris has yet again been oppressing the British people for no real damned point.

A new lockdown for a viral strain that has already traversed the nation will be another useless and damaging act for a government whose short time in elected office has mostly been a litany of useless and damaging acts.

This is what the Government Mouthpiece aka Sky News said this morning:

England has been put on notice for a New Year lockdown after the government’s chief scientific adviser warned that an extension of Tier 4 restrictions may be needed.

With the new variant now surging across the UK, an announcement that large areas of England will join London and parts of southeast England in Tier 4 is expected on Wednesday, 30 December, when the next review of the tier system is due.

The clampdown is expected to come into force in the New Year.

This idiocy is in response to a variant that is more infectious but possibly of the same lethality 0.3% as the current strain of covid. The government has failed to take into account the fact that viruses always mutate in response to environmental and genetic pressures. Many viruses that affect humans and have a degree of lethality often mutate into more infectious ones but ones with either the same or less lethality. This allows the virus to spread and survive without wiping out the hosts that the virus has to have in order to survive.

This constant mutation or what we should properly call, evolution of a virus is why scientists have to take a guess at which flu strain will be likely to be the most damaging in a given year. With flu and many other viruses it is the heads on the spikes of the virus that evolve year on year and until there is a vaccine that targets the stalk and not just the head, which doesn’t evolve and change as much as the head, it is unlikely that there will ever be a universal flu vaccine.

The policy of lockdowns has been proven, beyond any reasonable doubt now, to have been an absolute failure in controlling an airborne virus. The government let this virus in from China and elsewhere with it’s lax border control system, let it establish itself and then tried to use lockdown policies that failed in London in 1665 with the Great Plague in order to control it. This government has shown itself to be a mixture of hubris, incompetence and malfeasance. The lockdowns didn’t lock the virus out of areas they just locked the virus in along with the by now long suffering British people. Lockdowns have ended up being ineffective in controlling a virus, as many said in the past and continue to say today that they would be. However these lockdowns have done an awful lot of unnecessary damage to people’s lives and to the economy and to no real positive end. End the lockdowns now, open up the country and its businesses and Boris Johnson might just be able to hold on to some scintilla of respect. Go along with the scaremongering and he will be remembered by historians alongside other destructive and oppressive leaders in Britain such as Queen Mary I and looked at with same sense of horror.
