A while back I ran a strand on here of interesting movies, mostly old stuff, that I found intriguing and entertaining. It was mostly to fill space on here to cover the Friday Night to Saturday night period when I try not to ‘do’ writing or politics due to it being the Jewish Sabbath and to ensure that there wasn’t any ‘gap’ between Friday night and Saturday night in output.
Running the Friday Night Movie strand became a little frustrating as links would die and movies would disappear so I dropped the feature. Besides that I found that due to other commitments I had less and less time to view each movie prior to each Friday. However, I’ve discovered that there are still a lot of public domain movies out there and therefore I’ve decided to start up the movie strand again. It may not be every Friday for the aforementioned reasons of time pressures, but I’ll try to make it most or many Fridays. Posts will be timed to come out after sunset where I am on a Friday.
The first ‘Weekend Movie’ for your delight is one made shortly after World War II and is entitled ‘Green for Danger’. It stars Alistair Sim playing a detective investigating a murder and is set in a wartime hospital somewhere in rural England. The first victim is a postman and the detective is at a loss to know why this man was bumped off and by whom and the movie is a solid tale of how each character becomes a suspect and why. The hospital work is constantly disrupted by the of V1 missiles flying overhead followed by the subsequent explosions, something that shatters the nerves of the already stressed medical staff. I won’t give any spoilers but the ending is really a shocker and not what you may have expected from watching the story unfold.
So there you have it. The weekly, or thereabouts, movie feature returns with Green For Danger.
Just bought it online from CeX 5.45 Inc p&p, much cheaper than Music Magpie for this one.
Will give try it, thanks
Way back in time, 1970s, when I was in P5 (so 9) I and many friends watched the weekend Hammer House of Horrors late night movie. Some unfortunates were not allowed to by their parents. No problem for me as parents at weekend ‘Dinner Dance’ and babysitters gone – I ‘babysat’ 7 yr old brother.
Come Monday we’d all be discussing Dracula or whatever at school, most like me found them entertaining rather than scary horror….
…until Dennis Wheatley’s ‘The Devil Rides Out’ broadcast – it scared me. Some class mates couldn’t watch to end. Why? It was too Real compared to Vampires, Werewolf’s etc
Here’s a ‘horror’ oldie for your list:
