I, as are a lot of other Britons, am looking forward to the launch next month of the new TV news channel GB News. There has long been a need for some competition for the BBC and Sky who are currently Britain’s biggest news providers. Not only is competition good in itself, but both the BBC and Sky have become complacent because of their dominance and are producing output that has a quite noticeable Left wing slant. With these outlets, although more so with the BBC, you can have any view provided that it is a view that coincides with the views of the London-centric, middle class, Metro-Left.

The BBC’s output in particular brooks no questioning of things like mass migration, the promotion of identity politics or criticism of the wilder shores of the trans-cult. Watching the BBC’s news output these days is a bit like sitting in a branch meeting of the Socialist Workers Party. Now I’m not saying that there should be no left of centre news outlets, those of are on the Left have a perfect and inalienable right to voice their opinions just as anyone else should be able to. However, the bulk of Britain’s news outlets should not be all from the Left, there should be some space for those who think and believe differently from the BBC style Metro-Left.

Although I believe that Britons would be better served by a more viewpoint diverse news and current affairs broadcasting culture, with outlets taking a Left, Centre or Right stance with their output, this view is not shared by the censorious Left. Chief among those groups calling for GB News to be cancelled are a group that has in the past been promoted by other censorious groups such as the ‘Islamophobia’ monitors Tell Mama, aka the infamous Islamic grievance mongers and that group is called ‘Stop Funding Hate’. This group is also linked to the pro-migration, pro-open borders and pro-Islam umbrella community group called Citizens UK of which you can read more about here.

Now I’ve written about this odious group of censors who claim to be against ‘hate’ before on here in 2017 after Guido Fawkes revealed that Stop Funding Hate had been bullying the Paperchase company because Paperchase had entered into a wrapping paper promotion arrangement with the Daily Mail (See link to Part Two of my Stop Funding Hate article which is the part most relevant to this particular piece). Stop Funding Hate absolutely abhor the Daily Mail because of its then political view point and eventually, after what seemed at the time to be a lot of threats and pressure on Paperchase, the company agreed to cease their association with the Daily Mail. At the time Guido said that it would be ‘pathetic’ and ‘dangerous’ for Paperchase to cave into this small but noisy Stop Funding Hate group. It was especially weak of Paperchase to cave in to these censors as all that these censors had was 250 Facebook complaints, not exactly what you would call a massive number of said complaints. This comment by Guido about Paperchase being ‘pathetic’ and ‘dangerous’ has turned out to be very prescient as Stop Funding Hate have not gone away, if anything their win with Paperchase and other outlets that advertise with the Mail and other right wing papers has emboldened this group. If Paperchase had turned round to Stop Funding Hate and said ‘bugger off’ it might have been a small scale sensation for a week or so but attention to Stop Funding Hate’s whines about the Daily Mail would have been forgotten about pretty soon. Instead as happened,

Paperchase lost a lot of business from potential customers who were so disgusted by the cowardice of Paperchase that this may have contributed to their subsequent financial problems and later descent into covid-related administration. I know that I was reluctant to buy anything from Paperchase after they caved to these far Left censors and I don’t believe that I was the only one to think in that way.

The Stop Funding Hate group are preternaturally frightened it seems of people or media outlets expressing views that are not the exact same as their own. We see this not only from the past attacks on those companies that advertise or advertised with the Daily Mail but also by how they are now attacking GB News. Stop Funding Hate is trying to fire up its supporters, who are probably far less in number than this group would claim, by making the dishonest claim that GB News would be a UK analogy of the US’s Fox News, as if this would be a bad thing. Now unlike many that Stop Funding Hate is trying to rile up, I’ve watched Fox News, a lot, and although it has a conservative slant it is no different in the degree of its slant to those news outlets that are of the Left.

One question I would like to ask Stop Funding Hate but I probably won’t be able to as they appear to be blocking questioners and critics on social media, is this: If it is OK for there to be left leaning news outlets, why is it so wrong for there to be right wing outlets? In any event, Fox News is although conservative, in no way as extreme as some of the US alt media conservative outlets that I’ve seen, who really are a bit ‘out there’ at times. Fox is basically a conservative version of CNN and nothing to be frightened of, unless of course you are promoting an ideology that you want to keep from any scrutiny that is.

To give you a flavour of the tone that Stop Funding Hate are using in their campaign against a broadcaster that hasn’t even started broadcasting yet just take a look at the tweet below.

It’s plainly obvious from this Tweet that Stop Funding Hate are trying the same type of bullying against those who are thinking of advertising on GB News as they have used on other companies. Stop Funding Hate are trying to cripple GB News before it even starts, before anybody has even had a chance to observe and make a judgement on the output of GB News. This strikes me as being the actions of a group that will not countenance any other view in the public sphere other than their own, this makes Stop Funding Hate not just a nuisance bunch of Trots and censors, but instead dangerous. They want to silence any alternative view before it is even voiced, this is the behaviour not of those genuinely concerned about quality and honesty in media, but the behaviour of someone who would have been attracted to the idea of being an East German Stasi operative.

It is to be hoped that those who are thinking of advertising with GB News think of their bottom line and tell Stop Funding Hate where to get off. From what I can see there is an thirst for a different point of view that GB News may be able to slake and the potential for GB News’s success is to be found in the large amount of funds that GB News has been able to acquire for their start up.

I’m gobsmacked by the arrogance of Stop Funding Hate when they claim that the ‘British People’ do not want a news outlet that might be similar to Fox News. Who I wonder gave them the authority to make such a claim? It was certainly not me or the thousands upon thousands of other Britons whom I see on social media eager to see what a GB News team led by such a respected broadcaster as Andrew Neil will put out.

My advice to both the management of GB News and to those advertisers who are thinking of placing ads with GB News would be to ignore the whining of this Stop Funding Hate group and to look into their background. By doing so they will find that the constituency that Stop Funding Hate represents is numerically very small and that more damage could come from caving into this group than standing up to them.
