The type of Islam that dominates in Pakistan is not the sort of Islam practised by the Ismailis or the Ahmediyya, two sects that have managed, to a very large extent, to turn the sows ear of Islam into if not a silk purse, but something much better than might otherwise have existed. What dominates Pakistan are the most extreme interpretations of Sunni Islam replete with all the violence, hatred, supremacy and oppression that we’ve come to see and expect from this sort of extremist form of Islam.
How Pakistan, which unlike its neighbour India, has become a basketcase since independence from Britain, got that way is complex. Partially it is down to extreme forms of Islam being native to Pakistan but also you have to factor in the export of Wahhabism from places like Saudi Arabia to Pakistan and take into account that the founder of Pakistan, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, was not the enthusiast for secularism that many believe he was.
Since independence from Britain in the late 1940’s, whilst India has grown and developed as a nation, Pakistan has declined into a place where the only thing that seems to grow there is horrific oppression, especially of religious and cultural minorities. Whilst I would be quite happy and would feel quite safe walking around Delhi or Mumbai wearing a Kippah on my head, I certainly could not do the same in any part of Pakistan. In fact there are parts of London, areas dominated by a Pakistani diaspora, where I would not dream of displaying anything that identified me as a Jew for fear of a violent response from these particular followers of Islam.
In Pakistan, minorities are constantly in danger. They are exploited economically, are discriminated against in employment, face violent retribution by mobs or persecution by the legal system for any allegation of ‘blasphemy’ against Islam and their children are in constant danger of being coerced into converting to Islam and forcibly married to Muslim men.
This latest instalment of ‘now that’s why Pakistan is a shithole’ covers yet another case where a minor has been coerced or brainwashed into converting to Islam and married off. This particular story comes from OpIndia (h/t ROP) and tells of a 13 year old girl who went to work for a Muslim man and was brainwashed into joining Islam before being married to her employer, a man who already was married and had four children.
Op India said:
In yet another case of religious persecution and sexual crimes against children, a 13-year-old Pakistani Christian girl Nayab Gill was abducted from Gujranwala Division located in Punjab, Pakistan, forcibly converted to Islam and married to an already married Muslim man who is a father of four girls, last month.
Now, a video clip of her shattered and helpless parents is doing the rounds on social media, where they narrate their plight and plead for justice. The clip was shared by the Twitter handle Voice for Pakistan Minority, today (June 21).
In the 2.16-minute video clip, the distressed mother and the father narrate how a man named Saddam deceived them on the pretext of offering their minor child a job and abducted her. He then brainwashed and converted her to Islam. Saddam, who already has three wives and four children, thereafter performed ‘Nikah’ with the 13-year-old Nayab Gill.
The article then went onto explain how the family of Miss Gill became concerned when she didn’t return from work one day and went to the police and filed a missing persons report. Later, according to the girl’s family, it transpired that Saddam and his family and friends had engaged in some pretty intense brainwashing of Miss Gill in order to get her to convert to Islam. The brainwashing was so intense that when the family approached Miss Gill the girl no longer thought of herself as Christian or even belonging to her family.
This family has tried to get justice for what is quite plainly the abduction and forced marriage of a minor. Unfortunately Pakistan being the hell hole that it is, this justice has been denied. What’s worse and most egregious about this case is that despite the family supporting their case with documentation showing that Ms Gill was a minor at the time of conversion and marriage, something supposedly illegal in Pakistan, the courts have sided with the abductor. The family demonstrated that the girl was under age by producing her birth certificate but the courts chose instead to believe a fraudulent conversion certificate with a wrong birth year on it.
If we want to see what sort of societies the worst types of Islam on the planet create, societies where there is no justice, no freedom of religion and no right to freedom of conscience and thought, then we need look no further than Pakistan.
