The Murky Met. Serving officer charged with rape.

A few days ago I asked the question: ‘how many more cops like Wayne Couzens are there in the Met?’ At this point we do not know how many Met cops might be potential killers or sex beasts but there’s recently been an arrest and charge of an officer in the Diplomatic Protection Unit, the same unit as Wayne Couzens served in, for rape.

In a press statement the Metropolitan Police said:

A Metropolitan Police officer will appear virtually at Hatfield Remand Court on Monday, 4 October.

PC David Carrick, 46, who is based within the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, was charged by Hertfordshire Constabulary on 3 October with rape. The officer was off-duty in Hertfordshire at the time.

He was arrested on 2 October by Hertfordshire Constabulary and suspended the same day by the Metropolitan Police. We await the outcome of criminal proceedings.

A referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Commissioner Cressida Dick said: “I am deeply concerned to hear the news today that an officer from the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command has been arrested and now charged with this serious offence. I fully recognise the public will be very concerned too.”

Criminal proceedings must now take their course so I am unable to comment any further at this stage.”

Of course as this is a live case I have to be careful about matters pertaining to sub judice and cannot comment directly on this particular case. However what I will say is that for there to be one murderer and one alleged rapist in the same small and highly specialised police unit looks distinctly odd. If an area of policing that involves officers being armed and therefore subjected to increased vetting and checking can produce one murderer and one alleged rapist then something looks seriously wrong with the Met.

I’ll repeat the question that I asked after the sentencing of Couzens which is how many more dodgy and potentially killer cops are lurking within the Met? I must admit that this latest revelation and what might come out in the future when it comes to murky police officers makes an absolute mockery of the Prime Minister’s statement that we should ‘trust the police’.
