Creating a society, which the Left has created in the United States, where victimhood is something of a valued currency, will also create those who will try to earn such currency by committing frauds. This is basically what has happened in the case of actor Jussie Smollett. He has been convicted of faking a ‘hate crime’ against himself to take advantage of the febrile culture of race and racism that the Left have stirred up in the USA.
The fact he had to fake such a crime should tell us that racism is not as bad as some of the Left say it is. If there was genuinely massive amounts of racism with Black men being hunted down by racist police and racist members of the public then there would have been no need for Smollett to fake this crime, he could have just walked down the street minding his own business and the racists would have found him. The fact that this didn’t happen tells us a lot about American culture and how it has to a large extent healed the racial divisions that plagued it since the nation’s inception and which only started to be properly tackled in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
This case was always suspect from the start. From the claim that Chicago where the fake incident happened and which is dominated by the political Left, was where attackers shouting ‘this is MAGA country’ were operating out of, to the shifting narrative about the event from Smollett himself, Smollett’s claims have had more holes in then than can be found in a Swiss cheese.
The massive irony about this case is that the USA now has so few genuine violent racists that a Black man has to hire a couple of Nigerians to carry out such a fake attack. Smollett deserves some serious prison time over this fraud as not only did it help to contribute to the race baiting ending in severe violence that was promulgated by the Left, but he also managed to hoodwink the two people who later became President and Vice President of the United States into offering Smollett support.
I’m glad that Smollett’s fraud was uncovered and I’m also glad that he was apprehended and convicted. I feel that way not only because such frauds help to discredit those who push dubious ‘hate crime’ and ‘hate speech’ laws but also because the claims made by Smollett helped to sustain the leftist narrative that every White American is a screaming racist. These untrue claims about Americans put about by the Left helped to sustain a narrative about racism that ended up with mass civil disorder, deaths and millions of dollars lost due to rioting.
