The ego of arch Remainer Gina Miller landed in London recently with a press conference to launch her new political party called ‘True and Fair’. Unfortunately for Ms Miller the launch was woefully poorly attended and it looks as if her vanity party will fall somewhat flat.
Over at Unherd the writer Will Lloyd attended the press conference and wrote a fantastically scathing account of it which is well worth reading. But I would counsel that you don’t have any coffee in your mouths whilst reading it as laughing whilst your mouth is full of coffee could result in a ruined keyboard.
Here’s a short sample of Mr Lloyd’s piece.
So, she is a tragic figure. A Brexit leftover, surrounded by uneaten croissants. In the Long 2016 period she offered Britain a narrative, a high concept. The woman who never finished law school turning over May and Boris in the Supreme Court. She abseiled into the hearts of Remainers like an SAS soldier into an endangered embassy. Or, she was the elitist, doggedly thwarting the will of the people with her fancy lawyers. These were false stories imposed on the random and ambiguous truths of the era.
Still, back then Miller took her opportunities for performance well, and the press found a use for her. Yesterday, outside of Brexit’s high dramas, facing rows of unfilled chairs, she floundered. Miller sounded exactly like what she was railing against — a Status Quo politician. She tried to present herself as a prophet of change, but she looked like a familiar symptom of the times she wanted to transform. Out of touch and toothless, mouthing the same old platitudes about education and the economy you’ve heard a hundred times before. Shouldn’t she just be a Liberal Democrat?
I got the impression from reading Mr Lloyd’s article that the launch of the True and Fair party is more of an end for Ms Miller’s relevance rather than a beginning.
A genuinely appalling creature, with, as I understand it, a somewhat shady back-story…. John Ward had her rumbled long ago – https://therealslog.com/2019/09/28/slog-investigation-just-how-true-fair-is-gina-miller/
I don’t always agree with John Ward on everything but that is a damned good article.
I (think I) know what you mean about JW but I thought it a good article too – one that needed further exposure…
Yes I’ve noticed he can be a bit tin foil hat at times but that article about Miller was superb and asked the correct and awkward questions about her background. Yes it does deserve wider reading.
