I’d just like to take this opportunity to wish all my many American readers a very happy Independence Day. May your day be filled with fun, laughter, good times together with friends and family and an appreciation of what your Founding Fathers achieved. I’ll later (when the sun is properly over the Yardarm) be raising a glass to all the thoughtful and intelligent Americans that I have encountered over the years and whose Constitution has not only protected the rights of Americans themselves but which has been an inspiration for others. I will also be honouring all those Americans, most of whom are sadly no longer with us who fought those who endangered British and European lives all those years ago.
Just imagine how happy we will be in UK when the Conservative government (make that if) delivers our very own bill of rights. You know the one they have been promising for about the last 10 years to try to pull in votes. Of course we already do have a bill of rights here but as will be the case with any new one the government of the day will simply ignore it as and when it suits them. Good luck to the USA where their constitution is almost regarded as holy writ.
