From Elsewhere: Perry De Havilland knocks the ball into the back of the net.

‘Controlled flight into terrain’ is probably the best way to describe the Tories.

Mr De Havilland said:

The absurdly named Conservative Party is in the midst of a CFIT (controlled flight into terrain) due to its internal ideological contradictions. Far from being a broad church, the Wets, better described as Blue Blairites, people with more in common with LibDems or pre-Corbyn Labour Party than the free-market low tax wing of the party, have decided only they are fit to be in power.

Well said! The very people in the Tory party who despise those who voted to leave the EU and who are as illiberal and undemocratic as the Lib Dems, are the very last people to trust with running the country. When I look at the Wets, it is like looking at a slick Blairite like Mandelson crossed with a reality challenged Lib Dem like Jo Swinson. The Tories in their current incarnation and dominant culture makes me want to paraphrase Orwell as in: ‘I looked from Tory to Tory and from Lib Dem to Lib Dem and I could not tell the difference’.

  1. There cannot be many people left in the UK who believe we are represented in any meaningful way now. No point in voting for carbon-copy candidates; L/R, they all have the same policies of economic vandalism and self-enrichment.
It’s starting to look a lot like, not Christmas, but Armageddon!

I don’t feel represented by any of the big three parties and I’m certainly not represented by the mentalist Greens. Agree about it starting to look like political Armageddon. British politics is just screaming out for the asteroid.

  2. I believe that the Tory party no longer exists in any meaningful way. All we have now is a gang of selfish waring factions all keenly aware the next election will bring annihilation scrambling to fill their boots with any available loot while the grabbing is good.

It certainly does not seem to be conserving much at the moment. Agree that it is no longer a meaningful conservative party.
