There has been much excitement in political circles and among political anoraks about the return of Boris Johnson to the premiership. I can see the reasoning behind it for the Tories as Boris Johnson was at least an election winner who won big, unlike so many other Tory leaders of the 21st century.
But for me the return of Boris Johnson and all his baggage both political and personal would be like the return to the toilet bowl of a giant turd that was once thought to be completely flushed. Well that turd now seems to be well and truly flushed. Boris Johnson has said that he is going to withdraw from the Tory leadership contest as the time is ‘not right’.
I’m pleased to see the back of the turd that is Johnson but I fear that what we will get in the form of Rishi Sunak will be as bad if not worse.
Agreed, BJ is easily (expensively?) led by the blondes of this world. The alternatives seem to be Sunak – whilst he threw huge sums of money at Covid support loans, how much of that has been lost due to fraudulent claims which were rubber-stamped instead of being checked?
Mordaunt – she’ll have to work very hard to earn my respect/support after the confusion/fudge/denials over trans back in July.
Boris is, as Cummings put it, the human equivalent of a shopping trolley. In other words he wobbles in the direction which the last person pushed him. He does also have a chaotic personal life characterised by dishonesty and disloyalty. You are right that the alternatives are worse. Sunak is neck deep in the piss poor way the covid support loans were dished out and monitored. I know from my London contacts of all too many people running businesses who cashed in big time for loans and grants they didn’t really need whilst sole traders and other SME types got nothing and got shafted.
Mordant looks to me another bad bet. She’s very deeply in with the cult of trans and her walk back this year on this looks particularly cynical.
I’m really not sure whether or not I can bring myself to vote Tory next time.
I just love the title of this posting:-) The Tory MPs have always wanted Sunak, they ran Sunak and what they thought was a no hope candidate and the membership rejected Sunak. I believe Johnson was told in no uncertain terms that if he won this time they would make his life hell so he won’t run. They want Sunak and it doesn’t matter what the members or the other plebs want it’s going to be Sunak and it’s time the lower classes learned their place.
Thank you for the compliment. Sunak is the choice of the Wet Tories, the sort who would be more suited to the Lib Dems and similar to the Wets who Thatcher fought. You make an interesting point about Boris but there’s also the matter of the question about whether he would be able to command enough support in Parliament bearing in mind that he would have to be constantly fighting battles with the Wets and the Remainers.
