It’s a fantastic little crime drama centred around the British art world and art crime for this week. An Old Master painting, bought with British public money goes on display before going on to one of the London public art galleries. However, after the money had been transferred to the seller, a Dutch art expert recognises that the painting in front of him and which the British Government has paid thousands of pounds for is a fake.
The art expert reveals to the world that he has suspicions about the provenance of the painting and promises to tell all he knows about it. But, before he can do so he meets with an untimely fatal car accident. There then follows an exciting search by Scotland Yard to find all the pieces of the mystery about not just the death of the art expert, but also where the real painting that the forgery was copied from really was.
This is a really well written and put together movie and should really be much better known but as it was originally made as a ‘b’ movie, it seems to have been overlooked. Hope you like this one.
