There are some politicians who because of the impact they’ve had on their societies and the world at large find that their names become descriptive adjectives. For example we can refer to rhetoric as ‘Churchillian’ or policies as ‘Thatcherite’ or ‘Reaganite’ and internal divisions in Britain’s Labour Party were once described as ‘Bennite’ or ‘Blairite’.
However, the former Liberal Democrat MP Mark Oaten, who exited politics in disgrace when it was revealed by the News of the World newspaper that he had been indulging in extreme coprophilia activities with rent boys, instead of an adjective, gave us a descriptive joke. This joke, which is used to describe something that is disgusting from an olfactory point of view is to designate something as smelling ‘as bad as Mark Oaten’s briefcase’.
You would think wouldn’t you that someone caught out indulging in stuff that is beyond the pale for even many seasoned sexual libertines would accept that he had brought shame on his party and opted for a life out of the limelight. Other politicians who were caught out in scandal have retired to private life and some, such as John Profumo, of the eponymous scandal, repented by dedicating the rest of their lives to quiet public service.
Unfortunately for the British political scene, Mark Oaten has not gone gently and quietly into the political night. This man without shame or conscience or any conception of probity has decided that he wants to return to the political arena.
The Guido Fawkes site has reported that Mark Oaten is standing for election for the Liberal Democrats in the Severn Vale ward of South Gloucestershire council.
Guido Fawkes said:
Mark Oaten, a former Liberal Democrat frontbencher who resigned amid scandal, is looking to make his electoral return in the upcoming local elections. The Lib Dems’ former Home Affairs spokesman, who made it into Guido’s A-Z of Lib Dem scandal, was forced to resign after he was exposed for his three-in-a-bed rent boy sessions. The News of the World reported he made requests “too revolting to describe”
Oaten was, until his proclivities were revealed in 2006, paying for sex with male sex workers even though he was married to a woman who he had had children with at the time. It later emerged that the allegations made by the sex workers didn’t just relate to normal gay sex but to requests made by Oaten that the sex workers engaged in coprophilic acts with him. Oaten tried to excuse the disgraceful behaviour and the wrecking of his family’s lives as the result of a ‘mid life crisis’ but most men who go through such a crisis don’t ask male prostitutes if they minded being shat upon, literally.
Mark Oaten should have had the good grace to disappear in to obscurity but instead this turd obsessed political turd believes that he should have a second chance at a political career. I’m all for redemption but Oaten should have attempted to walk the path of redemption outside of politics. He’s an embarrassment to the UK political scene and an embarrassment to the Liberal Democrats. About the only good thing I can think of saying about the man is that he has similar less than charitable views towards Foxes as I do.
I’ve looked up some details about the Severn Vale ward which Oaten is contesting and I’ve come to the conclusion that this ward deserves better than a retreaded Lib Dem perve who threw his family under the proverbial bus in order to get his allegedly poo related jollies. 31.8% or 1239 of the population of this particular ward suffer from at least one form of deprivation, which is roughly the national average. The people of Severn Vale should be looking at voting for politicians who will help to reduce the number who are afflicted by deprivation rather than giving an unnecessary second political chance to the disgracefully depraved Mark Oaten, they do indeed deserve much better than that.
Good grief. Words fail me.
Mark Oaten also said he wanted to abolish our prisons system spoke years back. So where should murderers and rapists and child abusers be dealt with? The lib dems are a freak show, at least amongst their senior members.
They are indeed a freak show at the top level even if some of their local councillors do their best to serve their constituents.
