Do you wonder why you can’t get to see a GP in a reasonable time or why the NHS cannot fund dentistry properly or why there are massive waiting lists for surgical treatment or even think about why your local hospital looks like it hasn’t been properly maintained since meat rationing ended in 1957? Of course one of the reasons why the worst public healthcare service in the world is getting even worse is because the Government has a ‘let ’em all in and pile ’em up’ immigration policy, but another reason is that the NHS wastes money hand over fist. The NHS spends money on stuff they should not be involved in, money that should, but isn’t, being spent on patient care.
Let’s have a look at the latest examples of unconscionable waste by the NHS as relayed to the world by the Twitter user Marcher.
This is a disgraceful level of pointless and possibly counterproductive spending of taxpayers money. There must surely be a better way to organise a comprehensive, competent and reasonably accessible healthcare system, without the bloat and wasting of resources on non-core activities that now characterises Britain’s NHS.
I don’t know about the Southampton advertisement, but has it occured to you that these individuals will save their NHS Trust ten times that in bringing about initiatives which save energy and waste. Have you spent any time in a hospital recently (I’m there all the time) £50k/annum is a drop in the ocean compared with a large hospital’s fuel, water and consumables bill. Who do you expect to be doing this? Matron?
As for art & music in hospitals. Bring it on. Chelsea & Westminster have been doing this for decades. Anything to alleviate the relentless boredom of being a long term patient.
Saving energy should be a general task for facilties management and certainly would not warrant the sort of vaguely defined over compensated positions like these. I agree that it is a drop in the ocean but there are a lot of drops like this across every every health trust. The individual drops of expensive nonsense like this all add up.
I’m with you on the art in hospitals thing but wasn’t this the sort of stuff that used to be done by a hospital’s League of Friends? Why is not the Arts Council spending their money on stuff like this, stuff that is really and measurably useful to society?
