There’s a very disturbing piece that’s been published over at Unherd about the wilder shores of ‘trans medicine’ and how those who practise it seem to have abandoned any pretence of abiding by medical ethics. This piece is a bit ‘yuck’ and very disturbing but well worth a read. The ‘Gendermengeles’ have really gone far too far now and need to be reined in.

Yes, but I still find it distressing that Unherd has become so culturally impoverished they are trying to get mileage from a weird advert and practice in the US. The US is an enormous country with a lot of different states with their own legislatures and a totally different system of healthcare, and the regulation of it than the UK for instance or most of our western European neighbours.
Unless we have experience of the US system or have studied it in depth I see no point so far in using selected US examples to bias what our social and medical policies should be in the UK.
I don’t believe that Unherd is ‘culturally impoverished’ at all. It carries a very broad range of opinion, some with which I agree and some with which I do not. Also pointing out what is happening on the wilder shores of the trans ideology, an ideology that has acquired an enormous amount of unjustifiable political power and which is causing an immense amount of concern, is not evidence of ‘cultural impoverishment’. If you want an example of cultural impoverishment then it’s the pap, sometimes reality free pap, fed to people daily by the mainstream media such as reality TV, the dumbed down and incredibly biased Radio 4 output and a Press that has all too often become a mere mouthpiece of the government.
The video in question is not a ‘bizarre advert’ as you say it is. It is an archived interview with a gender surgeon who seems to have acquired a bit of a Frankenstein complex and believes that not only should children and young people be chopped about but admits that there’s little evidence about how these patients will end up. The process and the technique is what seems to motivate this surgeon not whether there’s any benefit to the patient. I will certainly agree with you that what is being described is weird and very very troubling.
Of course the US and its political and social systems is different to that of the UK. But what happens in the USA whether good or bad can end up having an influence in the UK. There’s an old saying that when America sneezes, Britain catches a cold and we’ve certainly caught a nasty bout of gender ideology from the source which is American academia and American medics, activists and researchers. I assume that you are aware of the Cass Report which as well as exposing deficiencies with the Tavistock Clinc also exposed how wide and deep this gender ideology had infected the wider NHS.
The problem of gender ideology has afflicted both the US free market medical establishment and Britain’s state run healthcare system. Even though both healthcare systems are different and the political system is different, we have similar problems in Britain re the gender identity cult as the USA has.
We seem to adopt every piece of crackpot American, usually Californian shite.
Satanic Ritual Abuse that was adopted by the leftists and “experts” that caused so much misery. Cleveland, Orkney etc.
Then that utterly discredited “Anal dilatation test” that saw parents demonised and children snatched to be abused in “care”.
The list goes on.
Agree there. Our academic classes seem to leave their brains behind when looking at US trendy stuff like you have mentioned.
Yes, but to see it from a different angle, it all started in the US in the 1950s/60s onwards to try to fix kids, mainly boys, who were exhibiting signs of being non gender conforming and they were subjected to behavioual modification therapies in the hopes they wouldn’t grow up to be gay or trans. The reference is Kàrl Bryant 2006.
The lesson may well be that gender non confirming people have existed from time immemorial and we are now only recognising a trans starus to simplify it a bit.
There is an awful lot of homophobia and biphobia surrounding the gender cult as well as a worryingly high level of real, not imagined, misogyny.
