A short while ago I put up a video of Professor Matt Goodwin talking about the need to build a new movement to counter an establishment that has become to a large extent an echo chamber dominated by the liberal left. That video was I admit rather lacking in detail but now he’s put out a longer video talking about what the problems are in the UK and how these problems can be tackled.
I must admit that I am in some agreement with Professor Goodwin about the way that national institutions ranging from government (local and national), cultural institutions, the media, education and the charity sector is now dominated by a graduate class that has very little interest or sympathy for the bulk of the population. I don’t believe, as some, although not Professor Goodwin, believe that this echo chamber has been deliberately created, for me that’s a bit too ‘tin foil hat’, but instead it is a natural consequence of ‘like hiring like’. A lefty in a position where they can hire will probably quite naturally choose a lefty and not a righty when hiring for a particular position especially if the hiring lefty has built or converted an organisation to left wing principles.
Where I particularly agree with Professor Goodwin is not just in his assessment of national institutions and the fact that many of them lean considerably more to the left than the general population, but in what should be the response to it. He’s right that what is needed is for the creation of an alternative organisational ecosystem which encompasses media, culture and politics in order to counter the existing Establishment entities that have been captured by the liberal left and which do not represent the majority.
However I have to say that this is a massive job and will take a lot of effort and coordination. Whilst I admit that in the media sphere much has been done to create alternatives to the mainstream and there have been successes here in that many who I’ve encountered no longer completely trust MSM and now rely on alternative services, creating alternatives in art, the charity sector and in education is going to be much harder. For example I know of only two schools in the UK that were expressly set up to provide alternatives to a failing and morally bankrupt and that is the Michaela School in London and the King Alfred School in the Midlands. There needs to be many more similar schools of this sort if there is to be any proper challenge to the type of education which the state is foisting on Britain’s children.
Other stuff, apart from the extension of educational alternatives will take an incredible amount of effort. To provide a proper alternative to the art galleries and literary festivals currently stuffed by Britain-haters or the charities that have been captured by the trans cult and eventually the politicians who have allowed decline to happen is going to be a very long job indeed. The liberal left have had forty or fifty years to wreck society and its institutions and it’s going to take at least two decades to repair the worst of the damage that has been done. If we want to make our societies better then we’ve got to be prepared for the long haul and we’ve got to be prepared to get involved in the political fight back against an opponent who will cling on to their power for as long as possible and use the dirtiest means in order to do that.
The video doesn’t seem to play, is it a subscribers only one I wonder?
Plays for me but there is a bit of a start up lag. I uploaded the hi resolution version of the video. If people continue to have problems I’ll replace this version with a more low def version. It’s certainly not paywalled as far as I can make out.
Thanks, yes, I gave it ten minutes and still not working!
OK as soon as I get a chance I’ll upload it in a lower resource intense size and format.
I’ve uploaded a smaller, less resource intense version of this video. Please let me know if this solves your problem.
Yes, that one works, thanks. I’ll watch it later.
