Quote of the Day 06/08/2023 – Lions led by arseholes.

I really like this Tweet by Dan Salt. He’s right about Britain and also right about what the problems are. He said:

I find it difficult to disagree with this. We are still inventive, we are still resourceful and still a nation that contains hard workers. These qualities continue to exist among Britons, but the problem is that this country has been incredibly badly led.

We are so badly led by our national and local politicians and by those who manage the delivery of services, that Britain is analogous to a brand new Rolls-Royce being put in the care of a psychologically disturbed Chimpanzee. In Britain the people have the capacity to achieve a great deal and would but for the poor way that Britain is led and managed.

Maybe if we had better politicians and better quality individuals managing public services we would not be looking over the precipice of rapid national decline?

  1. But if politicians didn’t strut their stuff, poking their ignorant noses into the 99% of things they just don’t understand, how would we know which of them to vote for?

  2. I seem to remember great statesmen and stateswomen in the past, unlike any of the current 650 moronic specimens we have to endure. But, like memories of long hot summers in my youth, is this just another false memory?
And the USA is similarly afflicted – a choice between a senile girl-sniffing corrupt fool and Trump is pathetic in a nation of millions – there must be many capable, intelligent people held back from serving by another corrupt system.

Some good points made there. We did once have decent and intelligent MP’s and a Lords chamber filled, not as it is now with party donors, but people in the form of life peers who had achieved something worthwhile in life and hereditaries who provided some viewpoint diversity.

With regards MP’s I think a lot of them got far too used to just rubber stamping EU edicts rather than doing what they were elected to do which is run the country effectively and for the benefit of the King’s subjects.

I’m with you on the USA situation. I supported Trump on the grounds that he was the least worst option and had confidence in the USA and its people. He’s not perfect, far from it, there’s a lot to criticise about the man but he’s better than Biden. Sometimes I look at what passes for US politics and start wondering if Nixon really wasn’t that bad?
