The left-wing commentator Owen Jones has always been good for a laugh. Whether it be him walking off of a news programme because he would not accept that an Islam inspired mass murder in a gay nightclub was indeed Islam inspired to his rigid adherence to the sort of identity politics that divides rather than unites, Owen Jones has deservedly been a subject of mockery.

However his more recent forays into commentary are not so laughable. His commentary on the Israel – Hamas war have gone beyond being merely partisan but has crossed the line into being propaganda for Israel and the West’s enemies. Whilst he is not one of those who could be described a denier of the reality of the 7/10 Pogrom, his constant questioning of established facts such as questioning about whether certain rapes and murders committed by Hamas and Gazans were as described, gives aid and succour to those who are denialists.

This is despicable behaviour from Owen Jones especially as he was one of the media personalities who were invited by the Israeli government to view video of the 7/10 atrocity, video filmed in large part by Hamas themselves. By still keeping up his line of ‘but did this happen this way’ questioning, despite being presented with evidence that should have answered his questions, Owen Jones has shown himself to be utter scum. Owen Jones was once amusingly entertaining because of his fixed lefty ideological viewpoint and his inability to accept challenge to his ideas, but because of the view he’s taken of the 7/10 Pogrom, he’s no longer funny, he’s just awful and a microcosm of what the British middle class left has turned into.

Brendan O’Neill of Spiked magazine is also decidedly unimpressed with Owen Jones and lays into him heavily in his piece on Jones. It’s well worth reading the entirety of the piece as it is a classic example of Mr O’Neill giving Jones a proper intellectual and political skewering.

However what caught my eye in Mr O’Neill’s piece are these paragraphs:

On and on it goes. Question mark after question mark is hung over Hamas’s pogrom. Sure, he doesn’t deny the attack happened. But he must know what the likely consequence will be of his invitation to cynicism about the worst reported atrocities. He must know it will tap into an already existing poisoned well of mistrust towards Israeli accounts of the horrors visited on their people on 7 October. Jones is no racist October-denialist, but I have no doubt that the racist October-denialists will take some succour from his video that asks whether we should believe in the unseen atrocities.

I find it hard to believe Jones has had a Damascene conversion to the old-fashioned journalistic task of always asking for evidence. This is a man up to his neck in identitarian bollocks and trans mysticism. If a 6”5 bloke called Dave were to identify as a lesbian, Jones would believe him instantly. He would say Dave is literally a woman, and literally a lesbian, and only a bigot would say otherwise. Yet when he sees a real woman murdered and burnt and denuded of her underwear, suddenly he wants evidence. ‘Show the rape.’ What a lowlife.

Spot on there Mr O’Neill. Owen Jones is behaving appallingly but he’s also behaving in a manner that is probably acceptable in his middle class Left social and work circles, which should tell us as a lot about the moral vacuity of Mr Jones’s circle of friends.
