‘Where we are going we won’t need no roads, sorry I mean social media’ is not what Doc Brown said in 1985’s ‘Back to the Future’ but stepping off of the internet is how some Britons are managing to comment on the current fervent and roiling political and social situation.
Sir Keir Starmer’s seeming prioritisation of Islamic interests with massive injections of public sector cash for the protection of mosques (although not for schools, nurseries or children’s holiday clubs etc, weird that ain’t it) is it seems not just being commented on the internet but in real life now as well. Someone has taken the trouble to paint up a sign saying ‘Starmer sucks Muslim cocks’ and set it up in public. The fact that people are making this sort of effort to mock Starmer and his policies and priorities might be an indication that those who are disquieted by how Starmer is managing the current situation are taking their views offline as well as on.
Here’s the image in question that is doing the rounds of various social media platforms.
Now to avoid any doubt, I don’t want anyone’s place of worship to be attacked or its patrons harassed, this is both wrong and counterproductive. As someone who attends a place of worship where the security procedures manual is the thickness of a regular paperback novel I understand that threats and attacks of such premises are completely wrong. It’s wrong whether the target is a mosque, a synagogue, a church, a temple or whatever. However the decision to splurge public money on mosque protection and only mosque protection does seem to have captured the public’s imagination and is fuelling disgust at the government. If Sir Keir Starmer wanted to fuel the ‘TwoTierKeir’ narrative then he’s really found the correct way to go about it.
