Quote of the Day 5th August 2024 – Britain’s identity politics disaster.

I have come to abhor identity politics. There might have been a legitimate use for it in the 1970’s and 1980’s as a political organisational tool as part of genuine liberation and equality campaigns but it has long outlived any usefulness it might once have had.

Identity politics is now the primary driver not for liberation or for equality of races, sexes and sexualities, but of division. Politics based on a person’s inherent identity such as their race or sex or what genitals they prefer to see on their lovers is politics that by necessity excludes.

It’s the sort of politics that I’ve needed in the past to call leftists out on as I did in the early part of this century when I counselled the Socialist Workers Party people that I used to debate with to have nothing to do with the politics of race and religion. I saw the high ups in this party pivot towards Islam in the hope that the Marxists could use disaffected Muslims as an army of footsoldiers that could be employed in the fight for revolutionary Socialism. I said that this policy idea would not end well and would only bring to the mainland of the UK the religiously divided politics of a sort that we used to see in Ulster.

So it has come to pass and in Britain we now have specifically Islamic political parties, parties like the Greens embracing Islam inspired Jew hatred, policing which changes its style and vigour according to which group is being policed and politicians who allocate resources, including resources related to policing and security on the basis of race and religion. Identity politics is turning Britain into a type of north eastern European Lebanon including voting on racial and religious lines and the emergence of street militias representing one side or another.

There’s a screenshot of a comment that is doing the rounds and which purports to be from the political commentator Brendan O’Neill and which sums up both the bad situation we are now in and the role of the political elite in creating this awful mess we find ourselves in.

Mr O’Neill (if indeed it is he) said:

He’s correct. The embrace by the elites in our politics and our society of indentitarian politics has fuelled racial grievance not just in one group but in every group. It’s a policy that has ruined the nation and ruined our society and every burned out building, every battered police officer, every machete armed mob member and every shitbag who milks the idiotic by race grifting is the fault of those who embraced identity politics and who did so long after the time when this sort of politics ceased to have much in the way of wider value. Identity politics and its bastard child multiculturalism has not just failed but failed both spectacularly and also sadly lethally.
