Music – ‘The British police are the best in the world……..’

It’s funny isn’t it how some songs pop into the head at certain times and in certain circumstances and speak to you of stuff that might not have been the original intention of the songwriter or performer.

One song that is popping up in my head a lot recently is Tom Robinson’s late 1970’s song ‘Glad To Be Gay’. It’s not just because this song contains the iconic and ironic lines that chime loudly today such as: ‘The British Police are the best in the world, I don’t believe none of those stories I’ve heard’ but also because of the song’s excoriation of the mainstream media and the references to keeping silent out of fear. In addition the lines about the police harassing ordinary mostly law abiding citizens for being Gay have echoes in how the police are treating dissidents who voice their opinions about the dire state that the United Kingdom finds itself in.

Here’s the song itself and below that is the lyrics. Listen and think. Remember it’s in my lifetime that LGB people were treated like dirt by the State and now it’s other people whom the State is also treating like dirt.

Lyrics

The British Police are the best in the world I don’t believe one of these stories I’ve heard

‘Bout them raiding our pubs for no reason at all

Lining the customers up by the wall

Picking out people and knocking them down

Resisting arrest as they’re kicked on the ground

Searching their houses and calling them queer

I don’t believe that sort of thing happens here

Sing if you’re glad to be gay

Sing if you’re happy that way

Pictures of naked young women are fun

In Titbits and Playboy, page three of The Sun

There’s no nudes in Gay News our one magazine

But they still find excuses to call it obscene

Read how disgusting we are in the press

Telegraphs, people and Sunday Express Molesters of children,

corruptors of youth

It’s there in the paper, it must be the truth

Sing if you’re glad to be gay

Sing if you’re happy that way

Don’t try to kid us that if you’re discreet

You’re perfectly safe as you walk down the street

You don’t have to mince or make bitchy remarks

To get beaten unconscious and left in the dark

I had a friend who was gentle and short

He was lonely one evening and went for a walk

Queerbashers caught him and kicked in his teeth

He was only hospitalised for a week

Sing if you’re glad to be gay

Sing if you’re happy that way

So sit back and watch as they close all our clubs

Arrest us for meeting and raid all our pubs

Make sure your boyfriend’s at least 21

So only your friends and your brothers get done

Lie to your workmates, lie to your folks

Put down the queens and tell anti-queer jokes

Gay Lib’s ridiculous, join their laughter

‘The buggers are legal now, what more are they after?’

Sing if you’re glad to be gay

Sing if you’re happy that way

  1. Interesting that you apparently support gay rights so much but apparently draw the line at rights for trans people. Anyway, dusk is settling in now so I can only wish you and your family a peaceful Shabbat. I like to keep Sunday peaceful as well so lets see if I still feel as Bolshie come Monday.

Thank you for the good wishes. I will be delighted to debate this issue with you after Shabbat.

The reason for the dichotomy is two fold. The first is that gender issues and delusions have nothing at all to do with sexuality which is what sex, out of two, a person is drawn to sexually and romantically. Trans doesn’t fit in that grouping at all. It’s like entering a dog for a cat show.

The second is that close contact with the transgender ideology taught me that what was being promulgated by the cult of trans left me with more questions than answers. I was from the mid 90’s up until about 2010 been up close and personal with transvestites and transsexuals when I was doing organising and club nights. The transvestites I encountered were often just straight or bi blokes who liked a bit of dressing up and went to specialist or accepting clubs to do that. But they didn’t say or believe that they were women. With the transsexuals I got the creeping feeling that what they were going through and what they were doing to themselves wasn’t curing them of whatever ailed them mentally. I saw too many people who suffered from depression etc and thought that transitioning would cure them of their sadnesses. It didn’t and the fact that it didn’t depressed them even more. Sure there were some individuals who were sorted mentally who transitioned but they were I’m afraid a minority. Most of them had multiple layers of mental problems and these problems might have been better sorted out with therapy rather than surgery or drugs. Then there was the aggression from some of them. Aggressive demands sometimes accompanied by subtle or not so subtle hints at suicide or harm to people if I didn’t change the focus of an event or a gig from the target market to ‘trans’ people.

Later on it was the realisation that the gender ideology didn’t just harm confused or ill or vulnerable people, it harmed women and girls because it took away the necessary spaces, facilities and sports that women need to keep them from harm and to allow their full participation in society. Remember one of the things that kept women out of public life in the past was a lack of facilities such a toilets for women and now because of the trans cult they are at risk of losing them again. Becoming a parent and seeing the damage that has been done to kids by feeding them the lie that they can change sex also went a long way to make me more intolerant of this ideology.

In addition this cult has been a magnet for wrong’uns. Whilst not every person who calls themselves trans is a nonce or an abuser but this community does seem to create or attract a lot of these types and there seem to be a disproportionate number of them (in relation to the size of this group) who have been involved in a great deal of criminal nastiness. A brief look at somewhere like Transcrime UK https://transcrimeuk.com/ will give you some idea.

    (1) There is no such thing as a “trans-person” – it is not possible to change your sex.
    (2) “Gender-affirming care” means “Gender-denying mutilation”.
    (3) “Gender-critical” means “Gender-confirming”.
    (4) Men who claim to be women in order to enter women’s toilets, changing-rooms, wards, prisons, etc should be imprisoned for 3 months.
    (5) Men who beat-up women in the boxing-ring should be imprisoned for 5 years.
    (6) Public officials, sports administrators etc who enable (4) and (5) should be struck-off.
    (6) Surgeons who carry out (2) should be imprisoned in Broadmoor Hospital for the Criminally Insane
    (7) Sorted it for you.
