We recently saw the death of the venerable and much respected actor Timothy West. In recognisance of Mr West’s death and as a tribute to him it’s right and proper that this week’s Weekend Movie is one featuring Mr West.
‘The Good Doctor’, a movie made by the BBC when that entity was half decent, is a biopic of Dr John Bodkin Adams, a general practitioner who operated on the South Coast of England. Dr Bodkin Adams had a large clientele of wealthy older patients many of whom died in suspicious circumstances and with some of these now deceased patients leaving substantial amounts of money or other goods to Dr Adams in their wills.
Dr Adams was never convicted of the murders that he was suspected of although he was convicted of fraud involving NHS prescriptions and regarding the signing of cremation forms.
Mr West is thoroughly convincing as Bodkin Adams and many people have recommended this movie to me as not only telling a damned good story but also a film that showcased Mr West’s admirable acting talent.
